Today it is the Nintendo Switch, but back in the days it was this monstrosity we had to game with… I count count the hours spent on California Games or Xenophobe. Note that the screen could be flipped for left handed!!!

I still have the game boxes for some of the games! I think I also had Xenophobe, but also bill and ted and a few others. It was an eh system, but my sister and I could play a few games together by linking

Always thought Atari gave up too soon – after the tankening of their ill-fated Jaguar and the Lynx they should have gone forward with that ridiculous Panther ( [yes, that was a thing](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atari_Panther) ) concept and finished out their collapse with a full triad of Cat-Themed consoles in order to jusify this shitty idea that I just made up xD

  3. Ah holy shit that’s a blast from the past

These were not popular. The game gear and gameboy (followed by gameboy color) sold way way more units. Atari executed badly, which is a shame. The Jaguar was also a beast of a console, and sold very few units.

The renders of this thing plays tricks on modern minds. Because we’re used to seeing handheld devices the size of a GBA or a smartphone.

Until you see an actual photo of a kid holding this thing you do not realize how honking huge and thick it is.

It had the only arcade accurate version of Ninja Gaiden. Alas, I never got to try it…oh well. I have a ps Vita

I had something very similar to this as a kid, only the screen flipped up and wasn’t color. Can’t for the life of me remember what the hell it was called but I distinctly remember playing the terrible racing game in particular for hours.

The game gear wasn’t bad, just was a battery hound.

Nobody had these, I didn’t even know it existed until I was much older. It was always the Gameboy, Gamegear and the Tiger Electronic games and SOMETIMES someone had the coveted Nomad.

I remember when the Lynx came with the super cool Blue lightning and california games. It was totally rad! Sure it was maybe 15-25 minutes of battery time on 8 aa batteries but who cares when you can play 16bit games on the go??

Was goddamn shame that it did not do better. But most other games sucked (Electrocop, anyone?). Ohh and yeah, well maybe most of it sucked to be honest. But still, california games is still rad!!!!

I had one of these that I picked up on clearance at a (babbage’s? electronics boutique?) that came in a bundle with like five games. I was generally unimpressed vs my game gear, never bothered getting any other games for it.

I can’t even remember what happened to it now.

This thing is what batteries have nightmares about.
