Simple, try fighting games. Youll never become numbah 1 there.

  2. Wolfy-615

I never brought myself to play the souls games.. I tried Elden Ring though for 10 hours and absolutely HATED it.. so I don’t think I’ll bother

  3. wejunkin

From Souls games are pretty unmatched in vibes and the feeling of exploration, but there are dozens of games with better combat and gameplay.

  4. realcommandercodyy

I feel you, tried Elden Ring, felt like I was playin a nightmare. Souls games ain’t for everyone pal

  5. liltrzzy

Personally, by the time Elden Ring came out, I was exhausted of the rolling simulator

Noita, risk of rain 1/2, Hades, ultrakill, trepang 2, wizard of legend, mortal sin, chivalry 2, hyperlight drifter.

All of these games have some pretty in depth combat or mechanics to them to explore and a lot of potential as a player to improve and grow. Some do intentionally challenge you, some in more unique ways. Some are just purely mechanically demanding and some require an understanding of the games mechanics in order to take advantage of them. I’m sure there are a ton more, but games have a lot of different space and genre they can reside in. From soft does have a very certain magic, but I think there is a lot of other hidden gems you can still explore if you have not yet. If any of them peak your interest and you’ve got questions, feel free to ask and I’ll try to answer them. I’m sure you’ll find something to peek your interest.

  7. Play Lies of P if you haven’t already. It’s a very moving tribute to the Souls series and souls-like genre in general.

I can play other games, but I agree there’s nothing quite like the Souls formula. It is absolute *chefs kiss*

  9. Rufus_Bojangles

Have you tried Nioh 2? It’s kinda lacking in the vibes category but it’s my personal favorite for souls-y combat.

  10. ExploerTM

I tried to give it a go multiple times. Last time I forced myself to play Elden Ring for like 4 to 5 hours

Nope. Na huh. Never touching souls game. Ever.

  11. Ponczo123

Playing on hardest difficulty in Witcher 3 after finishing Elden Ring and think “wow how easy” was a really weird filling

When you’re tired of playing in the kitty pool, Ninja Gaiden is over there 👉

Tl:Dr: dragons dogma 1 and likely 2 has a very unique combat system that is very engaging to the player though different from the souls formula.

This is only my preliminary opinion because for over the last decade I’ve ignored this game and have only recently given it a shot because of the sequel coming out.

But dragons dogma released slightly too late with slightly too much competition to take off properly like the souls franchise did.

I’m not saying it’s even similar to a combat style like the souls games. Other than you have stamina management and a light and heavy attack. But I am saying is that it’s probably the most unique combat system I’ve really found that parallels something like the souls combat.

I’ve played Dragons dogma dark arisen for about 7 hours so I’m by no means really knowledgeable or deep into it. But I just got my vocation class of warrior and the combat even though it’s dated and janky, feels really good. The way you learn new moves and the way you use your weapons is just different and independent of just about any other game I’ve played.

This isn’t nearly as difficult of a game as a souls game. But it can certainly beat you up. Its one of the first games in a long time that I feel just bad for missing out in for so long. I’m very excited to see how the second one iterates on the little bit I’ve experienced with the first one.

I know that this was completely and totally not asked for, but starting next week everyone and their brother is going to be talking about dd2 and how awesome it is. It’ll start getting thrown into every conversation on “what should I play” or “should I buy this” subs. But I honestly think if there’s big time souls fans out there that haven’t played it, they would really enjoy it.

  14. Play different game types.

After elden ring I e tried arpgs (the top down stuff) ,crpgs, a lot of indies.

Only time I reminisce about fromsoft is if it’s on a similar game where the combat is the only appeal of said game.

For example god of war combat was meh for me but the story was so good I didn’t care.

  15. Alecerzea23

The only souls like I tried and liked, was Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order (in easy xd)

  16. Vulture2k

Never understood that. I don’t judge but I just don’t like frustration and the dopamine after a victory was not worth it. I enjoyed elden Ring but it surely didn’t ruin other games for me. Guess I am build different X_x I like my games to not drive me mad.

  17. strawbericoklat

I’m not touching any Dark Souls game again after Lies of P. (*Sekiro and Bloodborne are exception*)

  18. eXclurel

Elden Ring is perfect for me because of its beautifully crafted world, gameplay mechanics and lore.

I will never play Elden Ring because it’s too hard and I do not see why someone would enjoy dying for the seventieth time to a mid level boss because you forgot its third attack pattern that one shots you when you block instead of dodging.

  19. Mindless_Let1

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne. The final few fights solo make Souls games seem easy in comparison

Isshin or Malenia took so much less prep and knowledge than Fatalis

  20. theLRG21

Fromsoft games made me really appreciate combat/encounter design, as well as art and level design. Made me really stop to consider how environments are put together in other gamers, especially in other souls-likes.

  21. Wizardof_oz

I mean, I agree but there are other types of games out there that are really fun to play for entirely different reasons

For example I recently got DMC5 and Dante and Vergil were amazing to play as. Really fun to get the right combos and all of that, though Nero was meh and V was kinda annoying

  22. I never liked games like dark souls, they were too hard to play and i never really had the time to “git good” until i played fucking Elden Ring. I was like a crackhead with this game. I also bought a second Ps4 just because i forgot my at home and 3 weeks without Elden Ring were out of the question.

  23. readitonreddit86

Oh yes, roll roll hit die (x1000) is the only fun gameplay

  24. only_for_dst_and_tf2

i never got souls games, like, if i wanted to be angry, get a headache, and break all my controllers, we all own hammers, just tie a lore book to a hammer and smashj your head with it and bam dark souls 3 bay bee

  25. I wish I had gotten into the souls games back in Highschool when I had time to grind. Now I just don’t have the time to put into them to actually get into it

  26. Normakdh

Me trying to play the first Dragons Dogma before the sequel lol

  27. nightabyss2

As someone with over 1000 hours in souls games I used to struggle to understand how someone could put time into the franchise and walk away not completely in love with the gameplay.

After hearing many opinions of people not sold by FROMS games I think a major factor in enjoying them is whether or not you perceive beating the game as a challenge you want to overcome. If you walk into a FROM game wanting it to provide you with a fun environment that feels fair you’ll probably not enjoy what’s on offer. If you start their games with a bit of a chip on your shoulder knowing it’s something you want to overcome it completely shapes your experience.

The idea of a game being a struggle just isn’t for everyone. But the reward of overcoming that struggle is magical for some. Me included

  28. Earthwick

Branch out into souls like games. If you enjoyed Bloodborn then Lies of P will be enjoyable I put it above dark souls 2 even. nioh isn’t bad either not quite the same level but it’s still a lot of fun.

  29. Capable_Soil_1748

what souls game can i play on a weak ass pc? i tried ds3 but i couldnt handle the fps at unstable 20

  30. It’s crazy to me that people in 2024 are STILL pretending that they are enjoying Soulslikes

  31. Monster Hunter is giving me the same highs, solid 300+h of content if you get into it.

  32. Technical_Moose8478

Non FS soulslikes that are worth the time IMO:

    Lies of P
    Nioh 1/2
Hollow Knight (2d, but super fun)
    Jedi Survivor/Fallen Order

Lies of P is the closest to a FS experience, but none of them are as good.

  33. FabulosoMafioso

I am so bad at Elden Ring and Soul Games. They’re way too difficult for me.
