That’s wild

That’s interesting. I always felt stressed out when playing games back in college. Usually because I felt I should be more productive instead.

I can see this. Personally, I only played games in college when I had actual free time so there was no anxiety or stress at all.
>Most participants were in their freshman or sophomore year.
Idk how I feel about this though. Freshman and sophomore classes are practically all geneds or intro level courses for your major. I think pulling in more Junior year students would be better. They have the stress and anxiety from harder class and internships on their plates.

Games are only anxiety-inducing for children and teens… Once you get older anxiety is in the papers… Notices, bills, mail, contracts etc…

I played a ton of video games while I was in college because all I did was school and workout so tons of free time. I wasn’t an NPC partying and getting drunk at every chance, I was a good boy so I could make big boy money. Now I make big boy money and my life is
3:30 am – wake up
4:00 am – Gym
5:30 am – Work(WFH)
1:00 pm – Get off work and immediately go run for 30 minutes
1:30 pm – Shower
2:00 pm – play video games until I pass out on the couch or barely make it to bed
It is a good low stress life.

Seems like the caveat in the article was mmorpgs.. “life simulation games”
I was VERY stressed in college keeping up with my world of warcraft raiding.. anyone else have mmos that suck their life away in college?

Wait until you’re 35. That’s when the anxiety over having fun instead of doing something *productive* really kicks in.

For me it’s entirely dependent on the game.
I can play some exploring, open-world games and they can help with stress/anxiety enormously, because they keep me so distracted for a long period of time I just calm down, like a stress fire-break.
On the other hand, any games where you fail/die multiple times in rapid succession or ‘play until you lose’ games like Tetris just add to my stress. I’ve learned to avoid those for my own sake.

Not sure why it would be, gaming is an escape, it helps people relax

Look, it’s harmful, the sooner we get over that the sooner we can game *and* not have kids going absolutely nuts all the time

Video gaming is like the most productive way that you can have fun, unlike linear entertainment you have fun while actively being forced to use your brain, these boomer takes that gaming does Y, X or Z still being alive today is bizarre.
