I wanted to look into getting some for decoration / a starter collection entering into the hobby. Problem is most I see seem to either be complete derpy crap or insanely expensive. I'm just wondering what a good middle of the road style brand is for figures. Stuff like Dark Souls, Berserk, Cowboy Bebop, etc. Doesn't really have to be any of that specifically I just wanted to indicate I'm not trying to buy a waifu collection.
I don't mean it has to be cheap just not insane. Like a decent middle of the road quality. Stuff like this is absolutely badass but it's $1300 USD which is insane.

The one you mentioned is from prime1 which is a pretty expensive company, cheapest I’ve seen from them was maybe $250.
Goodsmile company is the go to for any anime figures, and they do also make game figures, they’re still somewhat expensive with most of their lines but look specifically at the POP UP PARADE line, $30 20-ish cm figures with very good quality and often good detail. Older ones on sale can also be found for down to $20 I believe, but these usually sell out soon after release, so I’d recommend pre ordering the ones you really like. If you like chibi figures check out their nendroid line, and for articulated figures check figma, however these 2 lines are usually around $60 a piece instead
I’ve seen some figures from teitol(I think that’s their name) that were also around the $40 mark and seemed decent, but never bought anything from them
Sega also makes really fine quality figures but mostly for anime and they’re somewhat a bit harder to find as they’re often prizes from Japan claw and game machines, but you can still find sellers online.
Banpresto is a last resort, cheapest but the quality reflects it clearly, so I’d try to avoid them for favorite characters and such.
As for where to buy all of these, amiami and tokyootakumode are popular favorites, but I don’t think they have Sega or banpresto figures and the shipping can sometimes be absurd depending on many factors. If you want to make a large order on Tokyootakumode, I’d definitely buy the premium subscription then cancel it, it literally gives you extra money and discounts for free.
You can also try using Buyee for getting Sega or older figures, you basically find a seller in Japan (Amazon, yahoo auctions, or any other site) and they’ll ship the item to you. The good thing is that you can find really good deals thanks to this (once got 3 new Sega figures for around $25) but you’ll end up paying a lot on packing safety and extra shipping costs.
EDIT: Forgot to mention, but you usually won’t find figures with backgrounds or effects and props for the cheaper ends, but some popular characters could have them.
Bro if you are broke don’t get into the most worthless hobby imaginable. Just.. don’t?
I’ll recommend these for anything between $10 to $200.
Jakks Pacific – makes Nintendo toys around the $10 to $15 mark.
Jada Toys – currently making Street Fighter and Megaman toys in the $20 to $25 mark.
Figuarts – makes anime and game toys including BERSERK, Cowboy Bebop, Dragon Ball, Nier Automata, you name it, they probably made or are making it. Price ranges from $35 to $150.
Storm Collectibles – focuses on video game characters like Street Fighter, Tekken, Mortal Kombat, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, and more. Price ranges from $70 to $120.
Figma – makes anime and video game toys, including Dark Souls. They’ve become overpriced recently, ranging from $80 to $130.
Stores I recommend:
Big Bad Toy Store (they’re also the exclusive distributor of Storm Collectibles nowadays)
Amazon
Toyz In The Box
Eknightmedia
Take a look at Goodsmile company, they got some nice figures that ain’t too costly. They also do game figures which could suit your style. Just make sure you pre-order the ones you really dig. Cheers mate!
No brand, knock off stuff on taobao
If you want to make it a true hobby, get a 3D printer and some paint.
Then you get access to an insane amount of sculpts for cheap 🙂

First 4 Figures has some decent stuff, their price can vary depending on what you’re looking at. I have a Majora’s Mask prop from them that I am very happy with.
