First i got an extra 8gb of ram, total 16, then i got the 6700xt, had to get a better cpu, which needed a new cooler, and had to get a better motherboard to be compatible with the cpu, after that i got an extra 16gb of ram, and now next i have to upgrade my old ass 500w psu and switch to ssd

Ryzen 5 5500 and Rx 7800xt combo. No bottleneck whatsoever. It is funny how many people tried to lecture me. Most vastly overestimate how much CPU power you actually need. Especially if you don’t go for that high of a frame rate.

I went through this when I needed to upgrade my CPU. There was no upgrade option for CPU that would give me much of a performance boost without going for a new motherboard. So got the motherboard, had to buy new RAM, the power supply wasn’t up to the task anymore so had to get a new one of those, heatsink wasn’t good enough for the new CPU, so had to get a new heatsink. Heatsink didn’t really fit in my case, one of the fans is half covered but I got away with not buying a new case.
Was able to bring over GPU, case, and hard drives.

Meanwhile me, with affordable old-ish “gaming” laptop (I have no idea how that abomination was out together or by who, nor why the hell did he just left unaccesible Intel(R) UHD 1GB card in it and slapped another one ontop) ;
So, if i run the game-tab, FPS booster, cooling pad, reduce window to 1080/720, turn off shades, download a mod for better performance,and ignore the fact i can cook an egg on my laptop case i can get 3-4 hours before it drops below steady 50-70 fps and needs 2 min to breathe.

This is why I girl math upgrades. Did I need a 4090? No. Is it expensive? Yes. But if you break the price down by hours played it’s actually really cheap and gets even cheaper if you break it down by minute.

Who cares about bottlenecks? I have a 480 in my old phenom II X4 build. It kicks ass at a lot of games still (for what I need it for anyway).
A new GPU will still give you excellent gains and you can then upgrade everything else months later when you’re in a better financial situation.

I have an issue with my pc and instead of paying someone to fix it I decided to figure it out myself, so first I thought it was the GPU, so I bought a new GPU and it didn’t fix it, then I thought it was the CPU so I bought a new CPU and it didn’t fix it, then I thought it was the PSU so I bought a new PSU and it didn’t fix it, then I thought it was the ram so I bought new ram and it didn’t fix it.
It was the motherboard and I don’t have money left to get a new one :/

As fun as needing to get a new GPU the realize there has been a new gen for a while and now you must change to a new motherboard, CPU and RAM just to get a better GPU since the gen your using don’t have the power you need.

Same with older computers, I think I need a math coprocessor then an accelerator card and then a new psu and then a Zip drive then a syquest drive and the computer additions get crazier until you have ram out of money or case space

Simple. Just upgrade to the best GPU that can be sustained by the best cpu on your platform and upgrade the PSU if needed.
If you are not happy with that build a whole new PC.
I am on AM4. Already upgraded to 1200W i just need to see what GPU can 5800x3d run at 1440p without bottlenecking

That’s exactly why I’m laughing when I’m told PC are better due to per component upgradability.. what a joke. Work for minor upgrade, if you change for one generation to the next, ok.
But if you wait 5 years to change the GPU for instance, you will have to change everything.
It’s cool for reparability, that’s true, you can replace a single component if you need to. But that’s all.

then i got gpu from friend and then its all really started
need psu to power it ->after 1 month i managed to buy one
but cant plug gpu into dell pc cuz of their propriety shit
now its been 2 months and i am still saving for motherboard
i know next gonna be case

exactly what happened to me, got a good price on a 3080 founders edition, then realized I need a new CPU and motherboard, PSU was fine. Ended up buying a whole new computer and used my old one as a dedicated VR machine

I went through this when I needed to upgrade my CPU. There was no upgrade option for CPU that would give me much of a performance boost without going for a new motherboard.
