Are you really posting a screenshot of JoshStrifeHayes YT video pretending it’s YOU getting back into Everquest? Smh my head

Project 1999 is my go to for EQ nowadays, but I’ll always upvote an EQ appreciation post.
Sacdaddicus
It was amazing in its time but I couldn’t play it today. What was amazing back then was the novelty and community.

Spent so much of my life playing Everquest, their creators are still working on Pantheon, have no idea if it will ever come out I kind of lost track
DeathMetalPants
I never played EQ. I was too addicted to Ultima Online to ever check it out. I did play EQ2 for a bit and had a lot of fun until I tried WoW. Then I was hooked on WoW for about 15 years.

Haven’t heard that name in ages…
TruthOrSF
I forgot this game existed. I wonder why they never made anymore

World of Warcraft is the game to which I consistently return. Although I have never played Everquest, I believe I would have enjoyed it, given my passion for MMORPGs.
Coslin
Hard to believe it’s 25 years old this year. Pretty amazing in the grand scheme of things.
Edwiniwdra
Played them all, but EQOA (online adventures) will always have a special place in my heart. Shout out to all the folks from Proudpine Outpost!
I also want to add, spell effects, which now just seem like visual clutter, were magical to me back then. I was amazed by the caster spells. Sometimes they were so bright they blinded you and made your whole screen white. Annoying now, but the beautiful spells definitely hooked me into the genre and game.

That UI just got worse and worse

It’s always a bad time to get back into EverQuest.

I’ve played as recently as 2020, but you just can’t go back. None of my gaming friends will touch it because it’s so old and difficult.
Vonsidlol1
Man, this brings back memories. Played EQ from 2001 to 2003 then came back on progression servers (Ragefire, Phinigel). This game will always have a special place in my heart

SOW, please.

Eq1 or eq2? I never played but always wanted to

counterpoint: every day is a bad day to get back into everquest.

I still have some activity on the al’kabor project. Emu server locked into the very best time of EQ (Planes of Power). It’s a recreation of the EQ Mac server but they got all of the Luclin special events working and actively update/maintain the server with annual special anniversary events.

Is there a way to run something locally to just run around and see things? I never made it too far because I was weak and solo but I’d love to check out parts of the world I couldn’t get to
Thrillhouse138
You know I just got a new mid laptop and have been re visiting some classics. I had a friend in high school who really got into EverQuest and while I never played it did interest me. I think I’ll give it a go

I am a P99 evangelist and I will tell you that Live is still a great time
Why limit yourself, it’s EverQuest.
BrokenPhantom
I feel like getting back into EQ. It’s been too long since I played.
Skritch_X
Been back to it a few times over the years. Sadly it didn’t quite have the full feels it did back in the beginning. That long slog of spending an asinine amount of time getting anywhere, even with SoW.
I’ve tried. Oh, how I’ve tried. I just can’t get over the ridiculous number of windows and the lack of people, though. Played it a lot back in 2000 – 2002, but now? Just can’t do it anymore.
Swordbreaker9250
I want to like it but its UI is a mess and it’s clunky af by today’s standards.
Which sucks cuz I’d love more retro RPGs/MMOs, the way shooters have retro “Boomer shooters” like Dusk.

These days I just toss on the Kelethin music and recall what it felt like to fall asleep in the treetops in the rain.
