If you want the tl;dr it’s a feature that can allow a GPU to produce work for itself, rather than having the CPU be the main job scheduler.
It will require apps/games to actually implement the feature though.

Serious question: Under what circumstances will a game bottleneck the CPU?
I’ve heard for years that a GPU being bottlenecked by a CPU is almost never a thing that happens. Brad Chacos from PC World (a guy who had 15ish years of experience at the time of the quotation) said in his review for the RTX 4090 that it was the first time he’d ever seen a GPU bottleneck of CPU of equivalent generation of market segment. I’m aware that there are fairly specific scenarios where it can happen without a 4090, those being a GPU being paired with a much older/lower spec CPU, extremely CPU-heavy games like *Ashes of the Singularity*, and extremely high FPS (300+) esports games. But the conventional wisdom has always been that the graphics is the bottleneck in 99% of scenarios.
But lately, I see concerns about a CPU bottlenecking a GPU all over this sub, with lots of replies that seem like frank, earnest advice on how to overcome the problem, and directed at normal users playing games like Cyberpunk and Hogwarts.
How common is CPU bottlenecking in 2024, and why would that figure have changed versus when the 4090 dropped in late 2022?

If they do it fast enough I might not have to replace my i5 8400 haha (bottlenecking my 6700xt)

It kinda means instead of optimizing the game they can implement this feature and just let the gpu take over. Not sure if that really means more frames until seeing it happen.
I mean it sounds great! But I’d rather devs just optimize their game properly.
