It never occurred to me to move my PC while it was running. It was unthinkable for years because of the hard disk and now I just don’t have the need lol
why would anyone move their PC while its powered on ?
Seems like there is more to it than that. Was it moved in the way you would expect from someone who would move a computer without shutting it off first?
yeah not the smartest thing to do, especially if moving house, take that thing out completely
I am unsure how the two things are correlated, sure if you have a hdd and you move your pc regardless of it being powered on or off. But to burn the gpu and the motherboard?
I did that with my old pc because there was a fan that kept making noise if I didn’t bumped it.
With the current GPUs, I would never move a pc because it can sag and whatever you use to prevent that might move or fall.
Plus, I’m already worried about the PSU
I used to work on a helpdesk. The 2nd call I got after I first started was an insurance claim from someone who had water damage.
Me: How did it get the water in it?
Cust: I dropped it in the bath, and forgot I left it plugged in.
Me: Wha…? How did you drop it in the bath??
Cust: I was moving it through the bathroom window.
Me: Ok… why were you moving it through the window?
Cust: Because I don’t have any stairs.
Me (losing the will to live): Ok, we’ll send an engineer to have a look at it…

fuccck man its sad to see that u have to throw your motherboard away bc of one brunt PCIE (you can still use it but if its used for gaming then you’ll need to find a new motherboard)
One time my GF was removing some dust here and there with an electrostatic sheet. Gladly I stopped her in time.

Also there’s moree to just mnoved PC while it was on. Feels more like some parts were loose (GPU), and while moving it display cables pulled it and shorted
I don’t think these two are related at all. I moved my PC a hundred times slightly because I forgot to turn it off during vacuuming the room. Never did anything bad happened. While at least I have an SSD only system.

Why would you turn your pc while its on?
It burned exactly where +12v high power pins are located. The only explanation i can give is that he dropped the pc while moving, causing the connector to loosen, or even, making pin 3 (12v) touching with 4 (gnd) shorting the circuit. This last assumption is provable if we know the gpu was powered on while burning, or not.
Also, GPU nowadays are heavy, and gest heavier every year. I always use a pci extender and put the GPU in vertical on the bottom of the case to better absorb shocks, instead of making them reach the pci connector on the motherboard
There is no good reason to be moving a desktop while it’s still powered on. ZERO.
Formfactors like laptops, tablets, and smartphones are literally designed with some level of physical durability or impact during operation. Low-profile desktops aren’t much different… given they’re basically built like laptops.
Traditional ATX desktop towers are **NOT** meant to be moved… a sentiment that appears to have been lost to time as traditional HDD’s become less common… but I digress. It’s largely taken for granted across just about every single hardware manufacture spec for desktop PC’s out there, that if you move your computer during operation, you accept fault for any damage done. Regardless of whether or not it makes sense, you basically void the warranty of any component that needs to make a direct (not wired) physical connection with your motherboard, since any motion could influence the contact between components, leading to malfunction up to failure outside of expected tested specifications.
That being said… nobody has to know you moved shit… so delete this and get a damn RMA. lmao
I don’t move my pc when there are cables plugged into it, never mind when it’s actually running wtf. Partly because it’s heavy af, partly because how tf do you move something with that many cords going to it?
