I guess I’m struggling to understand the question exactly. Where did you get lost?

From a ten year old 970 to a nine year old 1080? Should be about 1 year less behind for newer games.
menacingmoron97
1080 can still game @ 1080p just fine. The 970 can’t anymore with modern AAA titles. That’s the difference – but the 1080 is aging quickly at this point too.
NovelBit666
congratulations, don’t forget to Repaste the 1080,
HazardousHD
You can expect to use the 1080 for a lil longer.
8GB VRAM is nice but it’s definitely showing its age in new titles.
JmTrad
Will be better. But both are very old.
maintanksyndro
To now have a new almost 10yr old card again
moatec
The answer is always better graphics. What are you honestly trying to gain from asking this?
GTA6_1
A noticeable performance boost. 1440p will have decent fps in medium settings probably? Are you wondering what you have to in windows? Just uninstall your 970 driver and install the 1080 driver after you put it in.

Not much. Honestly you probably won’t notice. I hope it was free.

That reference 1080 had such a beautiful design slot cooler.

Games now are way to bad optimised for either of these gpus
Finally updating my GTX 970 to 4070 TI Super 16 GB, what should I expect?
NotJustBibbit
It’ll be a little bit better but not by much
Don’t those cards sell for not much under a 30 series or 40 series card?
CrunchyJeans
Expect more graphics.

Bout 110 more

Some games will become playable at 1080p 60fps lowest settings. But for the most part it’s a waste of money which could have gone towards a better GPU.

Im gonna pull out my old 780 for this trend

Pretty much perfect 1080p gaming in mid-high details. It’s a great card!

You will have lift off. Bang Zoom Straight to Moon!
kazoodac
Two of the best cards of the last decade right there. 1080 still has plenty of life left in it!
qmiras
you can now play 2018’s games at 1080
No-Razzmatazz8053
Keep it for a few months then put it on a shelf and buy a 50 series.
I seriously dont get why people are buying
1080s still. My 2080Ti struggled in some things, 3080Ti picks up the slack though. I guess if all you play is runescape then whatever but you can’t play most games on them.
Don’t get me wrong too the the 1080s are amazing I love them. Got my 1080Ti on display still and always will its such a cool card and is sentimental to me as my first.
They are just simply not good for gaming in 2024 and frankly unlike what people on here say were not good in 2020+ either

Gtx 1080 user here. You’ve just bought into probably one of the most solid and reliable GPUs I’ve ever had. 6+ years now and still going strong!

it will have more power than the 970
