I purchased this intel i9-10900k off amazon, brand new from a seller. Proceeded to go insane during my PC Build gaslighting myself that I don’t know how to socket the chipset. Did some research and found out it looked like a Pentium processor. I contacted Intel right away and they confirmed that it was, in fact, a Pentium Processor with an i9-10900k heatsync attached.
Intel opened an investigation in the matter (don’t know the results). Reported the seller to Amazon and received a full refund (thanks). Decided to buy locally instead and found a deal on an EDIT: i9-11900k.

The excess silicon around the edge of the IHS is a dead giveaway that the IHS was removed and likely fake. Glad you were able to get your money back, people who do this are the worst.

Fake CPUs everywhere. Next time try a reputable seller. Spoiler: Amazon never is that, even if it is shipped by Amazon, because they have this stupid system where “identical” products get just mixed into the general stock. So if 10 companies sell 10900k’s they all send their stock to the Amazon warehouse, some low paid drone scans them in (UPC checks out, package is sealed) and they are all stocked as 10900k. Then any sales get fulfilled from this stockpile. Except, oops some of them were fakes. The low paid drone couldn’t tell them apart obviously and now it is literally impossible to tell who sent the fake ones in, unless Amazon actually tracked the serial numbers (not likely). So scammers can send in fakes and anyone selling them out of that stock may end up “sending” fakes to their customers. Does not matter how reputable, how many reviews (if you even trust amazon reviews at all) because even if the seller had legit goods, it is random what Amazon sends out.
Just do not do business with Amazon until they figure out that their system is far too ripe for scamming. At least on the upside, they replace/refund stuff with little hassle, but that is true for now – at some point they have to tighten it up as it starts to hurt their bottom line. Who do you think will pay it? Spoiler: it isn’t going to be the sellers…

Dvds making a comeback, vinyl in main stream again, and now having to go back to brick-and-mortar stores to make sure you get the right product. Insane how quickly we’ve regressed. I’m sorry that happened op.
