In my opinion, the Xbox 360 controller was peak design for Gamepads

I personally didn’t like how the 360 controller felt in my hand so the Xbox One-on controllers are my preferred input. I can definitely see how one could prefer the 360 version though.

Isn’t the Xbox 360 controller still the most used gamepad on PC? I remember reading that

Truly the greatest controller of all-time

  3. loztriforce

That first huge controller sucked so badly

Really didn’t like the joysticks on it though. I used one for pc games, after just one year of light use they got so worn out i needed 15-20% deadzones on everything cause they just didn’t centre anymore. Shit was like omnidirectional stick drift.

  5. Strongly disagree. D-pad on x360 controller is unusable. They fixed it in later revisions.

  6. It’s between the 360 and One S controller for me. I also like the additions to the Core(Series) Controller, but the buttons are a bit loud when you click/press them.

I remember being enamored by the black and white glass (well, maybe they were really nice plastic) buttons. First time in gaming I actually felt they were targeting a “premium” experience.

I still have mine for a second PC controller but it’s hard argue that the Series X controller isn’t the best controller MS has designed, IMO. Although battery life kinda sucks but it’s solved with buying rechargeable batteries.

I used my 360 Controller for PC Gaming until my left stick wore out enough that it was unpleasant to use. “One Day” I’ll buy replacement sticks (I tried a few “Caps”, but they just feel “Wrong”), they don’t look Too difficult to install, but in the interim I’ll use my X/S Controller.

Something about the contours of the 360 one make it feel nicer to me than the One/Series gamepad.

I still use my wired 360 controller to play PC games and I love it.

Man I love the Duke. Still my preferred Xbox controller. I even bought the anniversary edition so I can use it on pc

Oh man unlocked memories of that first 2001 controller
And the X just kept getting smaller

I thought the same thing until I felt the triggers on the newer Xbox controllers; the bevel on the outer edge is under-appreciated.

I like splaying myself out like a vegetable using Joycons. Nintendos OG Joycons aren’t so nice but when you get those thicker third party ones, they become more comfortable.

Also motion aiming is easier when they are separated.

  15. I don’t know if it’s much of an opinion as almost fact at this point. Almost every controller manufacturer has a controller with the 360’s layout.

I never had an original Xbox but just looking at the 2002 model it looks like it would be the best shape?

It was pretty good but game controllers have gotten SO much better. The battery pack on all of my xbox 3060 controllers just stopped working and the controller it self wasn’t all that comfortable. The new xbox controllers and the ps5 controller are better in every single way

The first gen controller is like the elephant man of controllers.

I remember I had the second gen controller, but the user manuals and box had images of the first gen controllers. I’m so glad I didn’t actually have them

I like the current design. It’s ergonomic yet sleek. And the 360 controller doesn’t look sleek.

  20. Tumblrrito

The vastly improved ergonomics and button tactility of the Xbox One controller (post bumper fix) beg to disagree

360 felt great in my hands and to use. To bad I had a very short time with that console. Probably my favorite controller

  22. mrsgaap1

i like the series x feels perfect in my hand but its been a long time since i played on my 360

  23. For XBOX HUEG hands, sure. Not for me though.

  24. JeVousEnPris

Dreamcast was the pinnacle of controllers IMO…

And was very ahead of its time for systems…

I’d say Tier 1 for great systems is NES, Sega Saturn (flopped, but far ahead of its time), N64, Dreamcast, PS2, and 360

  25. In my opinion, the Xbox Series X/S controller is the peak design for Gamepads currently, and I see very little ways that they could improve it. It has better ergonomics than any of their previous ones, actual texture on the handles, triggers, and bumpers for a more firm feel, good use of battery life, and premium build quality. The only complaint I had about the controller was for the first few months of using it, the dpad didn’t register my inputs correctly every time (1/20 times or so), but a firmware update fixed that issue for me.

PS controller feels so much better to me. Xbox 360 feels unnatural in my hand

  27. CxFusion3mp

Dpad top left for life. Hate hate hate having a joystick there.

  28. CreatureUnderABridge

360 controller was the reason I never had a ps3. My friends did and I just hated the feel compared to 360, so I stuck with 360 for that entire generation lol
