But what hero is going to rescue the video game industry workers whose jobs are on the line?

  2. Imminent_Extinction

It would be nice if indie developers used these tools to generate more profits and in turn spend more money in their community, but it will probably be used by large companies who lock their profits away in holdings to justify staff cuts.

  3. Miceater420

Love that the homeless population is going to increase because of AI

  4. Maghorn_Mobile

AI also won’t magically make games look or play better, have better stories, novel mechanics, or.. anything we want. AI should be a tool for artists, not a replacement for them.

  5. Crackracket

AI is a great tool to storyboard in early development and to get a rough idea of a scene before the artist goes in, refines and adds crucial details etc.

Its not great as it means they won’t need many many artists in their team likely just one for each type of art (architectural, character etc)

  6. ThreeDarkMoons

All I know is I can’t wait for AI NPCs.

  7. Deviate_Taco

I thought that said All Might and I got really confused on how he was planning on saving the video game industry.

  8. IAmTheClayman

Jesus H Christ. The video game industry is ***FINE***. It makes more money than every other form of entertainment combined (books, film, TV, music, etc). The companies involved are consistently profitable. The technology and fidelity of modern games is incredible.

It’s the ***people*** who work for these companies that are in trouble, because they want to wring every possible cent of profit out of each game, each employee, and each player. This article is the clowniest of all possible clown takes. You think that AI is a useful tool that can improve game development? I don’t necessarily disagree. But if this man thinks the video game industry needs “rescuing” he’s just NOT a serious reporter

  9. TheLoneWandererRD

AI is a tool, not a solution. It will tremendously assist in development.

  10. Odd_Inter3st

Yes because that’s what the world needs – AI generated sonic

  11. DickButtwoman

Yeah, that’s what Sonic likes. Powerful, crazy industrialists interested in replacing everyone with robots. You nailed it.

  12. fromTheskya

i could see a legitimate use in the creation of textures as well as assisting in the creation of more dialogue options

obviously ai by itself is gonna fuck it up so you gotta build off what they give you so its actually good

  13. Sean_Dewhirst

New means wont save this industry or any other, when their motives remain the same.

  14. TLaMagna319

It’ll work a little ultimately fail epically and than we’ll get back on track

  15. Zenthils

The videogame industry needs to stop being at the mercy of board members who knows nothing about games and are only driven by profit and trends.

Tech bros like this are a plight to society.

  16. ShinyNinja25

Ah yes, what better character to advertise the idea of using artificial intelligence than Sonic the Hedgehog, a character who regularly fights robots. Genius

  17. Dinosaur_Jesus

Ill say it. Ill take a game made a small team that is 90% AI generated assets over anything ubisoft has made in the last 10 years.

  18. Theolaxx

The video game industry needs a hero, a solar storm large enough to destroy the internet might just save the day.

  19. IllInstance7606

AI is going to “rescue” the largest entertainment industry in the world.

  20. CheapSushi117

What do you mean gross? This is going to save tons and tons of time on back end work. As long as they’re not having AI do anything creative, I don’t see any issue with it doing the mundane coding.

  21. DarthDregan

“Games industry needs a hero, and that hero is AI.”

    – Article written by a man paid by an AI company

  22. Sophia724

I misread this and thought it said Al Might like as in MHA.

  23. Ok_Marzipan_8137

We’ll all look back on this period of time and wish that AI was never created, because it’s such bullshit

  24. CrawlerSiegfriend

I think it will help for the people that strictly limit it to helping developers and making them more efficient. It’s going to be a shit show for people that use it to try to replace developers.

  25. TheLibrarianOfMythos

Don’t you think the market is already full of enough broken looters shooters who’s live service model doesn’t even give us anything worth while

  26. In an industry where so many devs and insiders have become narcissistic and hostile to the consumers, I’ll take it. It won’t magically make games better, but anything that makes the industry people uncomfortable is good in my view (e.g., industry folks who are out of touch and mad that gamers care more about good games than layoffs; same folks freaking out about Palworld even though it wasn’t made with AI).

AI allowed that one guy to punch above his weight to make Spacebourne 2, so when people say it’s just going to let corporations be lazier, sure it will but if you’re afraid of that then I think you’re afraid of competition.

  27. Regret-Select

I think AI could make games fun

Probably not many, to be honest.

I was thinking along the lines of Diablo generates a random dungeon. Something like that could maybe be interesting

Beyond that idk. Most games nowadays are cookie cutters of each other. I think AI would cookie cutter the cookie cutter games until we’re all playing Grand Theft Fortnite Tekken 9 and everything is the same

  28. realinvalidname

Who is going to play a game that nobody could be bothered to write?
