Evelyn Parker’s arc is one of the most tragic stories in videogame history

have you read Neuromancer by William Gibson? I recommend it

    Not really no.

It’s just basic consequences, barely worth the stories you find in Datashards.

You just got reeled in by the narration.

    * Ambitious Escort girl thinks she’s so smart she can pull a heist on a Megacorp top prized possession while double crossing among the most dangerous Netrunners of NC.

    * Everything goes to shit and thinks she can just….go back to her work as if nothing happenned ???

    * Get fried and sold.

    * Saved, kill herself because suffered too much.

It’s not really tragic, it’s almost mundane NC. No doubt your average Scav victim / Tyger claws victim or even real life sad story is way worse. Game just makes it “personnal”.

    Is this satire?

    I think it’s satire.

    I gotta disagree.

It’s definitely sad but not even close to being one of the most tragic. We don’t spend nearly enough time with her in the game to make us feel actually emotionally invested in her. Even in-character as V we barely know her when this happens. This is like our 3rd meeting with her. And the previous 2 were for business. We know next to nothing about her life, her hopes, her dreams, her family, etc. And she doesn’t get to show much emotion in the game before she dies.

Even just off the top of my head, I can easily point to Arthur Morgan from RDR2 as a much more tragic character. We know almost everything about Arthur from his childhood to his unfortunate love interest, and we have to watch him slowly die of TB while his found family that he’s spent all his life with falls apart and dies around him, and he’s betrayed by some of the people he loves most. And at the very end he dies alone, not even being helped by his father figure who is right there and just leaves him to die.

“Name a character that went through more pain than her”

Her heist went to shit and suffered the consequences with dealing with vdb, while what happened to her is certainly tragic and depressing but still saw it coming in a mile away. Even with her close friends she was not frank and honest and thought she could pull it off all on her own. What a horrible ending she had

Imagine you went thru the whole shit as she did, and in the afterlife you see your friend crying over you death… And some mofo you meet few days ago pose around and make selfies with you as the main attraction

She fucked around and found out. Then she commits suicide.

There’s worse that happened to better people.

It’s absolutely not. She literally tried to steal from the Vodoo boys ,then planned to swindle a high profile fixer from Afterlife and possibly even V herself. Literally trying to f*ck with the biggest players in Night City. Try doing that in real life and you’ll end up getting more than a brain short circuit.

I would gladly help her, nobody deserves such a fate, but she thinking you can get back to living like heist never happened was idiotic. It should be obvious someone is bound to be gunning for her. VDBs for screwing them over? NetWatch to cover that they deal with thieves? Arasaka for daring to steal from them? It’s not like she got back to Clouds for few days and then they got her. She spent weeks there before they made their move.

She fucked around. She found out. Then she took the easy way out like a coward and left her best friend to find her body and a lifetime of guilt.

Edit: To be clear I’m not saying she deserved what happened to her, but she is not a sympathetic character. She tried to defy the Corps, gangs and fixers at the same time, and faced the expected consequences of such a thing in Night City. Plenty of desperate people in Night City who want to get out and even they know better than to do what she did.

Tragic? Not really. Absolutely brutal and sad? Most definitely.

Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional.

V has other consciousness slowly rewriting his own. His mind degrading, slowly being pushed away by Johnny. Not knowing who you are, while knowing that the only possible outcome is you vanishing into nothingness…I mean I can imagine you are in a world of pain.

    Yet V doesn’t give up.

Be like V. Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage against the dying of the light.

Honestly amazed how awful these comments are.
No one deserves what she went through, even if she stole from the VDBs she still didn’t deserve her faith and it is one of the most tragic arcs in videogames because this is something that actually happens irl.

  15. It was the best ending she could get, the only one who suffered consequences was herself and not her friend(Judy) who she dragged into planning a heist against one of the most powerful and ruthless persons in the world

  16. urdnotkrogan

One of the most tragic stories in any kind of history imo. Evelyn Parker ended up with the worst possible luck any human being can have.

  17. Femballerboi

When I went in the bathroom it was one of those moments where I had to stop playing

  18. HarryMcFlange

Her fate was horrific, but she must have known that she wasn’t going to grow old gracefully sitting in a rocking chair on her porch after stealing from Arasaka on behalf of the Voodoo Boys and double crossing Dex in the process. Had she survived that, the Tiger Claws, Netwatch and Militech would have been gunning for her as well.

  19. salufear

The reason in all my playthroughs VDB no longer has a base and every scavenger dead on sight.

  20. Goatsays93

Deserved and I was glad she unalived herself. Two faced snake off rip. No difference between her and Dex at the end of the day. In the cyberpunk world much worse happens to much better people.

i can’t simpathyze with her, she tried to scam powerful people without knowledge. tried to scam v too. how can you feel sympathy for her?
