Names in zig-zag order : Jazz Jackrabbit, Raptor, Chasm, Descent, OMF, Blood.

Edit : You can STILL play dos games on modern PCs for free. You need to download D-fend reloaded and Dos-Box. Then download whichever game you want (full versions) from dos game sites like Abandonware. Now you’re ready to play!

Edit II : What’s y’alls fav dos games?

I still remember some of them

They were not very interesting, but I would totally replay them for the sake of nostalgia

I need my Ultima 7, Ultima underworld, System shock…

Oh.. I didn’t know I’m such an Origin fanboi back then

Yeah BLOOD and Jazz Jackrabbit are some of my favorite childhood games, just replayed BLOOD not a long time ago on Steam

    Pls… those modern games…

I remember Oh Mummy and Sorcery :/

  6. the hardest games were autoexec.bat and config.sys

  7. Descent used to give me nightmares as a kid for some reason

  8. Jazz Jackrabbit was one of the first games I completely finished on my own as a little kid with no help from my older brother or dad. It will always have a special place in my heart. Was so excited when I found JJ2 in a Radioshack floppy bin.

Remember? I still have a PC running MS-DOS 6.2 and Windows 3.1. In fact, it might be time to boot it up and play some Civilization (the original).

Raptor had blew my mind with my brand new sound blasters.

    Those were good days

  11. Snorevath

Cosmo and Commander Keen were some other amazing ones

  12. Played a fair bit of Jazz and Raptor back in the day
    Both have really nice soundtracks

I’d refer to this Era of Gaming as the Silver Age of Gaming, when Games still had this magical touch when you explored and played them….

Fun fact: One Must Fall 2097 had Jazz Jackrabbit as a hidden enemy.

  15. Wow spent a bunch of time playing one must fall at my buddy’s house

Commander Keen, Jill of the Jungle, Overkill, Lost Eden, and Mice Men are some of the staple DOS games of my childhood. (Of all of these, the only one *I* actually played back then was Mice Men; the others I watched my mother play and served as her guide, aka “Go there next, get that powerup, watch out for that enemy,” etc.)

And my first-*ever* game was[ this version of Reversi](https://www.mobygames.com/game/63381/reversi/) that came on a 5 1/4″ floppy.

Later, I played the hell out of Major Stryker and Treasure Cove, but that was when I was on Windows and I had them on CD, so I don’t really think of them as DOS games.

    Ah, nostalgia.

I still have a box in the garage somewhere with my old box of floppy disks with a ton of those games. Spent all my paperboy money the summer I was 16 on shareware disks from Pamida (bonus points for looking for Windows disks and having the guy in electronics keep trying to tell me I needed to go to hardware for window parts) and Dairy Queen. Think that was the only time I was ever truly happy as a teen.

Come along children, I shall regale you with tales of command prompts and colons having a use.

  19. Have a number of my big box DOS games on display around me in my game room. These games had a huge impact on my life, including driving me towards a career in IT. It’s amazing how far gaming has come.

  20. I played some Raptor: Call of Shadows just last week.

  21. joestaff

I’ve bought 2 handheld emulators that can play all of these games, it’s pretty awesome to play Raptor and Jazz Jackrabbit on the go.

  22. Chairman_Mittens

Descent was so good, but oh god I got the worst motion sickness from it. My mom always knew when I was playing descent because my face would be pale green.

  23. (The Great) Giana Sisters! Nothing has even come close to that game

  24. we_are_sex_bobomb

    – Quest for Glory 4
    – Wing Commander
    – TIE Fighter
    – Castle of Doctor Brain
    – The Lost Files of Sherlock Holmes
    – Cannon Fodder

  25. NOXUN2104

I still play blood fairly regularly, I’m discovering some mods now with the release of nightdive’s port.

    PSYCHO PINBALL !

    The best pinball game ever

The Descent series is one of my favorite. I cannot tell you how many hours I have logged in Descent II.

Sublevel Zero and Overload are spiritual successors to the series and have their own charms. Overload, I believe was made by members of the Descent team, and is basically Descent with the numbers filed off.

  28. LaserGadgets

Raptor is on steam! Who ever likes arcady stuff, grab it!

  29. FNChupacabra

Omg just seeing this brings me back!!! Star Wars: X-Wing, then Rebel assault consumed the most of the mid 90’s and the prime of my childhood lol

  30. Tramonto83

I’ll add Crusader: no remorse and Crusader: no regret to the list. I’ll never forget them for not giving me at least a third installment.

  31. My_Name_Is_SKELETOR

Anyone remember Commander Keen? Some amazing games back then for sure.

  32. Mr0sleep

I was actually thinking about jazz jackrabbit recently

  33. _SonofLars_

Alien version of DOOM. Now that was creepy before Alien Isolation was even an idea.
