This was one of our [Retro Roadshow](https://www.retroroadshow.org) events, where we stage “hands on” public exhibitions of historically significant classic video games and computers for folks in our community. This local elementary school was hosting a science night last night, so we put on an exhibition that guided visitors through Mario, across four decades of development. Every console was paired with a beautiful CRT, to ensure an authentic experience.
The tour began in 1977 with Donkey Kong on the Atari 2600 (playing in glorious black-and-white on a faux-wood grain TV!), and progressed from there:
– Mario Bros. on the Atari 7800 ProSystem
– Super Mario Bros. on the NES
– Super Mario 3 on the NES
– Mario Kart on the SNES
– Yoshi’s Island on the SNES
– Super Mario 64 on the N64
– Mario Strikers on the GameCube
It was a ton of work to get everything prepped, but it was totally worth it. The kids had a blast learning, and their parents had a blast getting nostalgic for the games of their own, childhood. It was so fun! Hope to see you at the next Retro Roadshow
