Buy a used 970 off eBay until you can upgrade to something better.atleast you will have something for your classwork by then. There like 40$

As a fellow GTX970 widower I feel you. It was truly a great card. Mine died during lockdown buz luckily just a before tue insame price hike.

Recently I got my first PC upgrade ever: GTX 1050 ti.
Before that I used to play with Intel HD 4000 and just the thought that my GPU could die at any moments quite scares me.
Trust me, my summer car with integrated graphics is hell.

If you’re on a budget depending on your location you can get a 6700 Xt for 300$ and 5700 Xt below 200$.
Mine is still alive and lost in the house somewhere, along with the 8800gts, 9400gt, GTX 550, GTX 660 and the 1660 super is living the dream running Minecraft in my kids PC.

I’m sure you could pick up a relatively cheap replacement online, look at the RX580 or a GTX1060
