I don’t think I want a gaming desktop anymore. When I go and play games All I Want to do is sit Down on my couch and play something instead of sitting at my desk. Playing a game at my desk right now feels like work. If I saved up the money and got an expensive gaming laptop, I would be able to play Anywhere I wanted to. I don’t play the biggest latest games. I play games like snow runner and the new expedition game.
I’m not sure what to do. I’m also moving into a smaller house, so downsizing would be easier than not downsizing. But I love my desktop and I don’t know if I could actually get rid of it.

PS the photos are a temporary gaming set up. I used to have a nice desk area, but I had to get rid of it since im moving.

You have associated couch with joy, desk with work. It’s a PTSD symptom. You have to flush the bad memories and associations with something new and fun. Environment doesn’t have an effect on you, it’s dead and still. It’s all in your mind, imagined, fake.
You can always plug the desktop PC in the living room TV and play the games there with a controller.
No reason you can’t hook your PC to the TV and play on the couch.
try looking for different kinds of chairs and switch to a bluetooth keyboard and mouse
To be fair, if I had the same desktop setup as you. I wouldn’t want to sit there either. I know you said you’re moving and it’s temporary but I can’t see your old setup.
Just hook PC up to your tv and couch game. I did that for a while myself.
Can’t you connect the pc to ur tv? You can use controller companion (4 euros) to have ur controller act as ur keyboard and mouse

Did you ever have a nice chair? I went from a cheap $60 office chair that was stiff and uncomfortable to a Haworth Very (bought at a yard sale for $20 and replaced the peeling arms for $30 off ebay, absolutely worth it) and it’s made an incredible difference in my enjoyment of gaming at my desk. If you’ve been using that folding chair then it’s a quick answer as to why it feels like a chore gaming at your desk.
I don’t know what hardware is in your current machine, but buying a laptop if you aren’t planning to use it regularly away from home, is still a waste of money. You can plug that desktop into a TV just like you could a console or laptop. If size is an issue, switching out case (mobo dependent) would give you the option of downsizing while maintaining that desktop superiority for way cheaper than a laptop. Of you could get a stream device to play games on your desktop from the couch.
In other words, unless actual mobility is needed (outside the home style) laptops are a poor choice. They cost more and perform worse.
I’ve been sitting on my couch with a controller in my hands with my desktop feeding my TV for 15 years now. No reason to sit at a desk to play.

You could try plugging your PC into your TV, or consider a lapdesk + portable monitor. Some portable monitors (like the MSI Pro MP161) have HDMI to mini-HDMI adaptors so they would be good enough for 1080p 60fps gaming. I’m not necessarily saying it would be as easy to use as a laptop, but you’d be saving some money if you wanted to game from your settee.
Honestly, would the footprint of a desktop really be that much bigger than the footprint of a laptop? I’d personally recommend just plugging your desktop into the TV instead of getting a brand new laptop. Even if you’re planning to get a new machine, I’d still build a desktop and just connect it to the TV. A desktop will cost you less and it’s going to perform better, as well as being more upgradable. And for when you need to use a mouse and keyboard, you can easily use Bluetooth ones.
My I felt EXACTLY like you, I wanted to build to be in my living room to play on the nice tv I had just bought. Then my work laptop stopped working, had to quickly adjust my new build to a table and a monitor, and felt like the titles I played on a controller on a 4k tv were different when playing on my monitor, so I came to a middle ground, take my desktop to the living room on the weekend, and during most of the week, mouse and keyboard games, at my table.

I’m confused. You want to spend more on a laptop to “play wherever you want”. Why can’t you just move your desktop to the couch and plug it into your tv?

I personally feel the same sometimes after coming home from work i just don’t wanna deal with brain worky stuff like clicky clicky and tipping tapping.
So anyways I just hook it up to my TV and made a script to launch steam in big picture when it detects my TV has switched to the correct HDMI port so basically I switch to HDMI and voila couch gaming. Just because you’re using a PC doesn’t mean you have to stay on Keyboard and Mouse.
My pc is is at a desk but it’s next to my tv so I just plug it into the TV when I get tired of the desk
I don’t know about the PC, but about your camera… I think you should clean it and remove the grease on the lens.
There is a thing exactly for you, it’s called a steam deck.
There are special kinds of small tables which you can use to place your mouse and keyboard while laying/sitting on the couch.
I play on my 75” tv, just using a lap board for my kb/ mouse and my Astro a50 wireless headset. Could also use a controller, for some games. I won’t touch that talk though of controller vs on / mouse in fps. We all know the answer.
A couch would be much more comfortable than that setup
I think you just need a more comfortable setup, so when you sit down you feel cozy, it can be anything. New chair, a new desk, a footrest, even a LED light behind your monitor or something can make a difference. Or just hook your PC up to your TV where the couch is. Or move your couch to your desk, whatever you think will make you more comfortable.

I ended up running cables from my desktop pc through the wall into my living room. Bought a decent wireless mouse and keyboard and now I can use it from my couch or desk. Would highly recommend this path if you’re able

Remember though, laptops generally overheat faster and have worse specs so keep that in mind
I used a 30m hdmi cable from my PC along the walls to my living room TV and a usb extender cable with a bluetooth hub at the end, so you can connect a controller and play on the tv. Works really well with steam big picture
Run a long HDMI cable from PC to TV. Use Xbox controller or similar with PC via bluetooth.
