What was interesting about the Peripheral is that the protagonists still exist in the high tech low life framework of Gibson’s other works. In this case the low life of being poor country folk scraping by with high tech in sight but mostly out of reach for them until the plot kicks in. Anyways this grain silo robot feels like something that could be in that novel. The juxtaposition of high tech/rural is something that I think isn’t explored enough in the literature/media. I really enjoyed just the fact that there were giant corn harvesting drone tractors in Interstellar, or the opening scene of Bladerunner 2049 taking place at the protein farm. I grew up in the city and I love the city but more high tech country please. Harder to pointlessly wash it in neon thank god

That robot is having the best time
My guy farmers not poor nor uneducated. The land is worth millions same with the equipment, it isn’t uncommon to see them with a masters in ranching or farming. When they don’t have an MBA.
Another moment of high tech, hillbilly life that comes to mind is Turner in Count Zero going to see his brother in the country with his augmented attack dogs and shanty house
