Finally, some good news

This is some wholesome news in the midst of all this chaos. Good on Larian Studios for reaching out to help those affected by layoffs! Excited for what these talented devs will bring to Baldur’s Gate 3 ??

tbf all the companies doing layoffs are also hiring laid off devs. Sometimes the very same devs. That’s what happens when do layoffs just to scare your workers into compliance…

Hiring now is actually very smart. You get the pick of some of the best in the industry and all are likely to be very motivated working at a company who treats you like a person, not a number.

Add a big DLC with major story expansion and level cap to 20. I just want to spend more time with Minthara.

I didn’t know it was phisically possible to be that wholesome

On one hand I’m sad that lots of my dev friends are losing jobs (which has been happening constantly over the last decade, it just finally received the attention it needed)
On the other I’m glad that the industry is falling apart. This model where video game companies sell themselves to a third party that just cares about money, that sacks them when things go bad, that Devs are forced to prioritise pleasing an investor who is not even going to play thier game over the actual playerbase.
I’m glad that studios with complete autonomy and creative control like Larian and Digital Extremes (not as much but still) are doing ok

Mighty always fall, sooner or later, but as of now I’ll say: Larian Studios is based as F. I especially like what they said about investors.
Not really interested in BG3, but I feel great satisfaction in what Larian does as of now. I’m desperately in need of positive human stories.

To be fair, lots of the major companies are currently hiring even after they laid off people. It just depends on the studio, location, and role.

Larian has more staff compared to most AAA teams, hope this doesn’t bite them back in the future.
Those companies which are laying people off, expanded their teams WAY TOO MUCH because of all the profits and new wave of players during covid lockdowns and sometime after that so they can “pump” more stuff to sell to the players.

I finished the original sin games. Absolutely great RPGs and this seems to be more of the same, will buy some day when it’s on sale.

For some reason I’ve hated every game Larian have made despite them all seeming to be my thing, but I’ve always liked them as a studio. They always seem to be saying and doing good shit.
