Hey everyone, short story is I sold some RAM online. I got the RAM after submitting an RMA when my own failed. I had already replaced my RAM with a new kit, so the RAM from the RMA being resold to recover some of my costs. Anyway, the person whom I sold it to online (eBay) is asking for a return stating:
” Hello, there is a problem with memory kits, they have different subtimings, see pic 1, they work at 2100mhz pic 2, but wont boot at 3600mhz. However, each kit individually supports 3600 without problems. I would like to return these. Thank you ”
Is this a common thing with overclocking? Is this person just not doing something correctly, or should I have listed and sold the kits separately? I want to do right by the buyer, so should I refund them or is this an issue with how they’re configuring the overclocking or something else? Here is the eBay listing, which includes pictures of the RAM that I sold.

Well if the timings are different means they are different kits (they might look the same but the part number or revision must be different) so they will need manual tuning for them to run together, or in the worst case scenario that the ICs are different then they won’t work together, yes since they are 2 different kits you should have sold them separately not like a 4 sticks kit.
You can help them troubleshoot, but honestly every little thing that stops working they’ll blame the RAM. You’re better off just getting a return and refund and reselling from there. On a side note, you should probably sell the two individual kits separate, I.e. not as a 4x16GB kit but as two 2x16GB kits and make sure the sticks are matched. I think from the eBay listing you linked the SN matches up per kit, but just double check. You can see in the photos provided that the buyer is using DOCP, likely because the XMP profile did not load for this configuration as the XMP is for 2 modules.
I ran into same problem with my 4×16 kit which turned out to not be an actual problem. Hope eBay takes your side.
