    Depressing but not surprising.

The whole of tech seems to have forgotten they need people to build things even if those people are using a chat bot to write boilerplate (which doesn’t work reliably anyway).

The documentary and lawsuit about this game is going to be something

  3. Oh dear, I hope that doesn’t mean the game’s full launch will be delayed.

    ^^lol

  4. wray_nerely

I’m sure it’s just a cost-cutting measure so they won’t need to sell so many digital goods

I mean if they’re actually relocating to Manchester and people are unable to relocate what options are left?

It’s absolutely not great and Todd Papy was an amazing presence on their YouTube channel when he was on and will be missed. But I can’t fault him for choosing to remain where he was if he was unable to move.

  6. StonewoodNutter

They were just paying them to exist anyway since this game is never coming out, so you might as well pull the plug now.

  7. dudushat

Article is misleading. They increased their employee count last year, they haven’t made any cuts anywhere.

This is just them moving a studio and some people weren’t willing to make the move.

Didn’t meet the kickstarter goal, damn, better luck next time.

  9. Give them a break their a small team with little funding. They can’t afford to relocate people…

My partners brother in law is friends with a senior dev in CIG. This is not a bad thing. There is a massive hiring push in Manchester. Many dev teams are set up there and theres a lot of talent in the local area. People laid off will simply be people who couldn’t relocate. They don’t intend to cut the team they want to refill those numbers

Man I guess they just couldn’t afford it, maybe we should send them a few bucks.

Anyone still falling for this scam deserves to be ripped off.

    Ah so more hearsay “journalism.”

But any chance to shit on Star Citizen, amirite?

  13. LeviathansFatass

We just need five hundred million more dollars, pls bro I swear

  14. ThreeTreesForTheePls

This seems to just be capitalising on the wave of lay off drama.

The company didn’t lay people off. They found a more centralised building, and a few workers didn’t want to make the move so they parted ways.

  15. bicmedic

Oh no, they might not make their 2014 release date now.

  16. Bowman_van_Oort

I remember how excited I was when I pledged for this game a fucking decade ago.

  17. SecondAccount404

Was Cloud Imperium always a UK company or did they move there? The article doesn’t actually say where their original office was.

  18. A_Wild_VelociFaptor

I feel like the product this company is advertising needs to be investigated by a government body if some sort (I’m not American, idk which one) if for no other reason then to ascertain whether the product _exists_ or not.

If you paid for this when it was announced, you got scammed, and if you’ve paid for it recently, you’re an absolute idiot

  20. Better delay it another 5 years to compensate for that.

  21. NoClip, where’s the seedy documentary about CIG at?

  22. DanceJuice

I get it. We all hate this game. But this article is fucking terrible, if this poor excuse for journalism was about any other game the comments would be talking about that instead.

There have been a handful of lay-offs, which is way below the industry average this time of year. And the studio continued its move to Manchester which has been occurring over the last 5 years. Todd Papy would have known this for some time and would have had plenty of time to make plans.

  23. Crymsyn_Moon

No longer content with swindling naive gamers, the beast has set its eyes on it’s own employees.

  24. Zerosdeath

Oh boy. You are about to piss off the SC Stans…

  25. smurfkill12

Relocating makes no sense, they have 5 studios around the world. I only know of Todd Papi and no one knows why he left.

There was a restructuring of the company late last year into January as a lot of the devs are moving from Squadron 42 to Star Citizen as their not needed in Squadron anymore because it’s feature complete (that’s what they tell us, and what we’ve seen is a lot more people working in Star Citizen now, considering the next page is going to be the biggest patch released to date, having like 1/2 of the stuff that they showed of at Citizen Con last year).

  26. They’re just waiting for the game to not be sci fi.

  27. MoeSzyslakMonobrow

Lol that game is never leaving EA

  28. persepolisrising79

    ROFL

    predetaory monetization sheme ? check

forever in development hell ? check

    chris roberts ? check

Cloud Imperium a “highly toxic company.” Anyone suprised lol

  29. XevinsOfCheese

They make money hand over fist, there’s no reason they can’t afford to keep their employees.

  30. Dthirds3

Why do people play a game that will never release

  31. Fuckspez42

I’m convinced SC is just an elaborate scam at this point.

  32. alintros

So… A few people not wanting to relocate to a new office is news now? Oh, my bad, its not news, just a SC hateclick bullshit post…

  33. atominthered

Holy crap Todd Papy is out??? He was in dev videos for years.
