Weird bios settings seen in Polaris Bios Editor

    My Reference 8GB RX480 is getting pretty old, and I’m ready to do some hardcore overclocking because I don’t really care how much longer it lasts. It’s on water, and with the voltage at 1250mV and the power limit unlocked up to 250W, the GPU die sits at 50c and the VRMs at 108c under synthetic load. That still leaves some overhead, so I’d like to see what I can do with more voltage, provided I can unlock more Vcore in the BIOS. I wouldn’t mind upping the power limit a little further too, though I’m a little concerned about burning up my PCIE slot, so that would necessitate a board mod.

    I downloaded my BIOS using GPUZ, but when I open it in Polaris Bios Editor, I get a message that “This BIOS is less than the standard 512KB size.” Strange, but I’m able to download the BIOS from their website, and it doesn’t seem to elicit the same problem.

    Anyways, as you can see, some of the figures look correct, while others are way out of wack. Namely, the GPU frequency/voltage settings are showing nonsensically-high voltages for everything above 300Mhz.

    Does anyone with experience modding this card know what I’m up against? Is this normal, or should I expect that saving and flashing this BIOS, even without making any modifications, might brick my card?

    While I have you here, I have a couple other questions: I’ve seen some guides on adjusting the memory timings to improve performance, but the sources have always been crypto miners. Does anyone know if there’s any real-world benefit to cranking up the timings to the 2000Mhz timing for all other frequencies? How much heat and voltage can these Samsung memory modules handle?

    I’m also going to take a stab at Buildzoid’s memory volt mod. Wish me luck.
