Hey Overclocking reddit!

Recently I got a new GPU (6800 XT) and noticed my performance in CS2 actually seemed to be a bit worse than before. Less consistent frames, lower average framerate in crowded scenarios like deathmatch, and I started to wonder how that could happen. My CPU was an 8600k, and I know even with my 4.8ghz OC that it would be bottlenecking a lot coming from a 1080, however, I don’t see a reason my performance should *drop*. Temps were fine and my 750W PSU didn’t seem close to being too stressed, with my GPU barely working while my CPU was sitting at 80/90% usage (was around 70-80% usage before with the 1080).

That got me interested at looking at benchmarks. I did a p95 small ffts and blend test to see if my OC was unstable, but it withstood the testing for hours with a peak temp of around 90c with an average of around 85.

However, when I ran 3DMark’s CPU Profile and compared my score to people with the same processor and same OC; with similar ram, I could see my scores were very low compared to others. I assumed it could be because my CPU was old and starting to degrade (I got it basically on release, so it’s around 7 years old with OC for 4 maybe), so I got my friend’s previous 8700k, which had never been OC’d and he’s had it for maybe 5 years.

**Here are my results OC settings and results**

Both CPU’s use the same OC settings

– 1.32VCore with LLC bringing it down to 1.3 under load

– 255W power limit both short and long

– System Agent/VCCSA 1.25v (sits at 1.27v in HWiNFO)

– CPU I/O 1.2v (sits at 1.224v in HWiNFO)

– LLC Mode 5 in MSI Z370 Gaming Plus bios, latest bios version

What I’ve done so far:

– Tried raising voltage to see if I was clock stretching, under C24 my 8600k was sitting at 4.775mhz on all cores, 8700k sitting at 4.760-4.775 mhz with the listed OC)

– Reseating everything, applied new thermal paste

– Clean reinstalled W10

– Reset my bios to optimized defaults and benchmarked again, comparing to results that was at same max clock, still lower scores

**Specs:**

MSI Z370 Gaming Plus

3000mhz Corsair Vengeance CL16 (4×4 GB)

6800XT Reference

(Currently) 8700K @ 4.8ghz all core OC

Corsair RM750x

Honestly I’m at a loss for what to do at this point, I hope some of you can help me!
