As a teen, I owned all the 6th gen consoles. I had plenty of games on PS2 and Gamecube, but I only owned one game for Xbox. It wasn’t Halo, Morrowind or Fable, it was The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay. It was fucking excellent.

It still feels like such a loss that it was never remastered!

I would never get over the fact that Vin Diesel loves himself so much that he founded a freaking studio that focused on making games about him lol

and a few of those are actually good games as well.

  3. But your pic is from Athena’s Butcher Bay, which, in my opinion, is worse than the original.

  4. “After all…. What’s hell without a little fire?”

F’ing still love that line and his delivery. Such a great game.

Story goes that the original xbox Butcher Bay couldn’t be made playable on 360 or something. Instead, it was remastered and included with Dark Athena.

Dark Athena has been available on PC, PS3, 360.
It remains available for digital sale on 360 until July when the store closes.
Was never made backward compatible on xbox one.
It has a Butcher Bay commentary dlc.

Loved this game (even Dark Athena), another thing that was great was they did that developer commentary mode where speech bubbles were placed around the world and you could get insight into why they made things a certain way.

They are a great studio, I believe they went on to do the Darkness video game, which was a lot like this game, adventure, action, dialogue choices etc… I think the team then made a new studio and did the latest Wolfenstein games and will do Indiana Jones.

Look at Johnny Moneybags over here.

When I saw the gameplay for the new Indiana Jones game, it immediately reminded me of this game. It makes sense, supposedly a lot of Machine Games developers came from the studio who developed this.

Haha, Vin Diesel’s self-love game is strong! But gotta admit, some of the games were top tier. Wish they did a remaster though!

“…it’s the sudden stop at the bottom.”

Rich parents or divorced? Either way congrats I guess.

  14. The gameplay in both Butcher Bay and later Assault on Dark Athena was and still is so good, that those 2 along with Metal Gear Solid 2 are the only 3 games I’ve finished so many times I stopped to count.

Too bad we will probably never get a 3rd entry.

I’ve finished Butcher Bay for the first time when it was re-made with the release of Dark Athena and I was always wondering, maybe someone can answer:

Did the base version of Butcher Bay had counter-attack finishing moves as well or were those added in the sequel/updated version of the 1st game 🤔?

Yep, that was a damn great game for sure!

Thanks for the memory of this game, gonna try to run this with RTX Remix.

  17. Those graphics were as good as they got back in the day…

  18. Ta-veren-

Highly enjoyed those movies! Never tired the games

Vin has always been an avid gammer and made sure it was good.

I replayed that one so many times. Every couple years once I’ve forgotten the puzzles I go again.

The current generation is the first of which I’ve owned every console. The kids have grown up, and I’m sober. Booze costs a LOT more than gaming.
