Nintendo was a different company in the 90s

Lmao this looks like some sort of retro hardcore porn

  2. Senior-Pie3609

Neo-geohad some similar ads in the 90s.

What always amused me about this era – was how Nintendo was desperate to capture the attention of adults ***as well*** as children to stamp out companies like SEGA and various pretenders from that time period

    Which is hilarious

Because, gotta tell you, even in the heady medieval era of the 90s, in no way shape or form does a woman being chained to a bed make me want to pick up a GameBoy 😛

It’s a kind of funny inversion to their later Wii attempts – where they wanted to cater to the casuals, families and the elderly by trying to make games as simple as possible xD

  4. Well, she asked for it. All she had to do was trade her Haunter with me and things wouldn’t have come to this

Am I being dumb? I don’t get how the image is related to the gameboy at all

  6. WhiteHawk77

This is where someone makes a joke about I blocks and O blocks.

Video game ads in the 90s were so unapologetic. They just shamelessly leaned into the horny, degenerate, gamer vibe.

Gaming was very much sold as a male dominated thing in the 90’s…. It wasnt until game companies realized how much money they were losing that trends changed. I would go so far as to point to games like Candy Crush or Farmville really hammering home to mainstream companies the absolute shit ton of money they were leaving at the table that women would spend on more casual friendly gaming.

Game advertising was awful, kinda still is…

  10. Malkavian_Grin

90s Nintendo was just built differently. Like the ad where a guy eats so much food he explodes and it slaps the wall in front of a Mario title on screen.

  11. Bunch of weirdos…They have no sheets on the bed. One pillow? FFS.

  12. uezyteue

“And of course, mario will never start shooting hookers” is a real quote said by Reggie Fils-Aime during (I believe) E3 2003.

  13. No, ads were different in the 90’s especially those for video games.

  14. keplu007

i dont get it, are we saying that he tied her up to play. or that hed rather play tetris then have kinky sex

  15. Superbrainbow

This was Nintendo of America’s horribly misguided attempt to recapture the teen boy market from Sega. The gross-out ads for Earthbound probably contributed to its low sales, and don’t get me started on that Yoshi’s Island 2 ad.

    The 90s were… different.
I wouldn’t say unhinged but less serious in many aspects. Which is both good and bad.
Regarding the ad: remember we had booth girls who were nothing more than fuckmeat for some convention visitors.

You had ads that were testing limits. Ads like this one or one for a Tennis game: that ad featured a young girl or rather her white panties.

You had the famous teddy bear with a bloody hole in the middle.

So yeah…in retrospect a lot of things were questionable

They going back towards that with all the hentai games on the eshop haha

  18. Acrobatic_Airline605

To be fair many people in the 80s and 90s were at least 59% cocaine

  19. This ad must be for… >!Gerald’s Game-boy!<

  20. DarkArbok

Nintendo used to own love hotels and sold nude trading cards

  21. BigDumbAceFurry

Lol yall should crawl their wiki.

    They started with trading cards.

    And love hotels.

  22. ViirsNox

    Nintendo in 2024 : 😁

    Nintendo in 1990 : 😈

  23. In the 1890s Nintendo made playing cards popular with the yakuza

  24. -The-Pale-One-

Ever just kidnap a hoe and then get distracted by your handheld device and by the time you are done with your second play through of Pokémon red you decide to let her go?

    Gameboy saves lives.

  25. Penguin_Boii

I know it’s just an ad but who tied both her hands up if the guy is playing a Gameboy??

  26. SavageRedStorm

Getting an exploitation horror vibe from this

  27. MinuetInUrsaMajor

The 90s were a different decade. Kids were saying “suck it” while chopping their hands to their groin. That’s right. Kids were telling you to fellate them.

  28. RequiemStorm

And in the 2000s. They used very similar advertising for the Gameboy SP.

  29. KeepScrolling52

Every video game company was different. What happened was they got infiltrated and attacked by people who don’t like advertising that is fun.

  30. Before they were a videogame company, they made playing cards and ran love hotels. Their biggest customers were, naturally, Yakuza members.

  31. Esme_Santos

Hmm that’s got me feeling a bit tingly ngl lol 🤭

  32. NoMoreGoldPlz

    Back when we didn’t need 72 genders…
