hello guys I have a dell G 3 3500 with an intel I5 10300H my temps occasionally hits 100c

i read the post shared at the r/dell sub about undervolting

link:[https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/udceao/intel\_only\_dell\_g3g5g15\_undervolt\_guide\_cpugpu/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/udceao/intel_only_dell_g3g5g15_undervolt_guide_cpugpu/)

A YT link that helped me :[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMBmciQ6SU4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMBmciQ6SU4)

but as i have a different model so variable names (i gotta change those to unlock over/underclocking) gonna be different

i also read the links provided (in the post above ([here](https://brendangreenley.com/undervolting-2020-dell-laptops-like-the-vostro-7500-and-more-tips-to-improve-thermals-battery-life-and-speed/))) there and saw a method but I didnt get to find the variable by its name(i got an empty search result in a software called UEFItool)

so if anyone can help me

i tried asking at the dell community but i didn’t get any useful answer

i will reply to any comments for more info just when i have the time to (it might be late but i will reply eventually)

the reason Im asking because using throttlestop to undervolt shows a grayed out option which means the undervolting is locked from the BIOS of the laptop

and i cant find the variable in UEFItool

i appreciate any assistance

I forgot what/why/how but a lot of machines will have the bios pulled oddly depending on how you do it. Use intelligent FPT or firmware update utility or whatever they call it to pull the bios through command line, one of the files it spits out will have your vars you’re looking for. Also rarely, the variables will be named something else. overclock_lock might be oc_lock or even something arbitrary. Might have to find similar machines made by dell/AW of the same platform/generation and pull their bioses/find them, look for the standard name of the var, note it’s offset and class or whatever they term what denotes different sections of the map, and pray that they’re the same for your machine. I hope any of this helps, and I can clarify if anything isn’t understood. Typed this up on little sleep and purely from memory doing this with my own machines. Brendangreenly has a blog where he does this to a Vostro that taught me how to do all this in the first place, check it out if you want more reading on this technique.
