It’s still of some import to take note of minimum and recommended requirements, just to get an estimate of what you can expect, performance wise. Like, if I just meet minimum requirements, I usually hold off because I know the experience is gonna be equally “minimum”. And I ain’t some broke ass kid anymore, struggling to get WAREZ and 0-day crackz workin’ on my trusty pentium 133.

Ah man, the good old days of config.sys and autoexec.bat.

I remember the first time I got a game that auto-detected my sound card. No more picking and choosing through different options/sub-options and STILL having the audio be completely fucked up…
It was amazing. Roughly between 1993 and 1995…

This reminds me of just a few days ago me screaming at my computer “THE FUCKING TV SPEAKER IS CONNECTED! EVERY FUCKING SOUND IS PLAYING ON THE TV SPEAKER! SO WHY. NOT. THE FUCKING GAME!? JUST RECOGNIZE THE DAMN THING”

I remember creating a specific boot disk to partition the *memory a certain way with my dad in order to get TIE Fighter to boot. It took a while to get everything configured but it was worth the wait. I laughed too hard at the second panel.

I remember begging my parents for one of the early SIMS games and being super excited to get it only for it to not load due to (if I recall correctly) a problem with the drivers. Truly crushing as a preteen.

Worst time of my life.
All the bullshit one had to go through to get the game running.
Hail Windows.

As someone who owned and played that game with the official joystick, it was awesome. No other star wars flight game even comes close.

I just realized that after months of trying, I never actually got Tribes 2 to work in 2001. I paid a ton for that game and wanted to play it so bad, but I actually have no idea what that game is like…. I’m sad now.

Remember when we had to make sure each game was looking in the correct port for the sound blaster to make sure that we had sound and the joystick was connected? Good times.
Also, TIE Fighter was goated with the sauce. I still think about how well that game was done to this day.
