Those are USB port
There’s been reports out of this sub about certain ants being attracted to thermal paste. You need to find the source and kill the colony. They can, and will, do damage to your PC.

I was thinking, if you cover your PC desk’s legs with ant repellant as well as the wires going to your back IO ports of the PC, will that help keep the ants off?
Can someone please elaborate as to what causes this. Is it because of a dirty room or just the environment outside?? I’d really like to avoid these fuckers. If they’re attracted to thermal paste, it sounds like keeping the room clean wouldn’t be effective no?
Where are the ants?
Get some canned air, blow em out of the ports, visually inspect the insides of your pc, if you see em on the motherboard/gpu you need to clean it with ipa.
If you see em near the psu shroud, and they entered the psu, best would be to replace it or take it to a shop and let a professional clean it.
Run cyberpunk to teach them not to fuck around. Make them find out…

Remember, do not eat the thermal paste/pads(optional)
If the motherboard was inexpensive compared to the rest of my parts I think I would simply replace the motherboard and clean out all my other parts. I would be cautious of the psu as well. If you have a ant problem in general they make these plastic plugs for ports you can plug into your pc when the ports not being used.

Ants follow trails of pheromone left by other ants. Use a spray bottle of 50/50 water/vinegar and douse areas around doors and windows. Otherwise, they’ll just keep coming.

I looked for their source of origin, saw them going in line along my wall, from another room. My neighbour’s room. I knocked on his door, saw that he was Chinese and there were garbage bags open on the floor. He looked at me like I was an alien when I told him that ants were coming from his room to mine.
I went to the store the following day and sprayed the walls with insecticide. Problem fixed. OP, spray your computer’s inside with insect spray. You’re welcome.

Why would they go for a computer. There’s nothing they can burrow into, and there is no food. I thought they also liked humid/damp environments.

The colony is not in the PC, as some ants will get electrocuted and die, they will release a “distress smell” which means they’re being attacked, little by little there will be more and more ants coming into your electrical systems and will eventually break your pc, you need to act fast to stop them and find their colony otherwise you’re screwed, they won’t just break your pc, also any other electronics that you gave in your household.
This is why cleaning with lemon is a good idea.
Literally called Crazy Ants, I’d unplug it open it blow it out with compressed air, leave it away from the spot for a few days. Spray all around your place with something like Ortho Home Defense bug spray, spray water vinegar mix around all windows and anywhere at all.
If they are dug into your electronics getting their environment up to 120 degrees will kill them.

The neet trick that works for me, get something sweet (I use honey), put it in small plate combined with some baking soda. Let all the ants eat that shit.
Never had any ants problem after using that trick

Everyone posting about ants in their computer needs to realize your HOUSE has ants. Like, totally infested. You may not be aware because they’re in the walls or whatever. But they don’t just appear at your computer from nowhere. Treat your house/apartment immediately.

Ants love electricity. They will follow the lines through your walls. I had carpenter ants at my place last year. They had 2 big nests in my yard that I didn’t catch right away and they infiltrated my house.
Had to find the nests and dig them up, finding and killing the queen. Then put any bait around the house and I used sticky traps to find where they were. Once the queens were killed though, the rest sort of lost their way and wandered and died. Or maybe that was the poison.
