I really want a better desk surface area to work on. I play guitar and pc game primarily.

Any advice on desks ? Budget is $1500-2000.

Does not need to have standing option. Maybe some storage space underneath as well.

ha-ha I’m in the same boat as you. I’m looking to get a pretty large L desk or something. thinking about building one but honestly, I’d rather just buy a nice one and mod it to my needs. hopefully someone has suggestions.

You could do a Magnus Pro XL. It is a sit stand desk that has a storage attachment tray on the back with a full metal frame. There isn’t any drawers underneath but I’ve seen plenty of post where people add them and just program the minimum height to be above the drawers.

Ikea makes really nice solid wood countertops that you can combine with their desk legs or Alex drawers for a good solid large desk that doesn’t flex at all.

    Here’s links:

A bit gimmicky but whatever – I’ve fallen in love with SecretLab desks. Get the XL.

    Magnets, cable management, AND LIGHTS!

Big recommend on getting the PC off the desk. Frees up a lot of space

Honestly, I use an IKEA dining room table. It measures 80” x 37.5” with the leaf in. No sit stand option, but it’s really fucking sturdy. Like I can climb on top of it sturdy as a 170lb. man. I just like having a lot of desk real estate and I like being able to lean on my desk without worrying about breaking it.

I’ve also been looking at an uplift desk that’s 80” x 30”, but it seems a little shallow and the four-leg one costs like $2,500 when it’s all kitted out. You can get a two-motor uplift desk that’s also 80×30 for cheaper, but I worry about its sturdiness.

You could get a sleeve for your cords, and amazon has some nice mods for a big desk, drawers and add ons. My brother sorted my cords out and I had to just learn to be fine with what shows. It needs some clean up but it shouldn’t really be hard or cost a bundle. I did my set up on a budget and I’m happy with it!

If you have a decent budget, I recommend Uplift Desks.

I’ve really liked my uplift desk. I’ve had mine for 8 years and no problems. I think they have L configurations too. I’m betting you can find good desk bases for cheap second hand. Then you can use your budget on a good desktop.

I was able to find a used Bush U-Shape executive desk. It’s massive at 72in wide each desk and the connector is probably 24in. They have a couple different configurations and sizes. Thoroughly enjoy mine, able to hold a 34in and 27in monitor on one side and 3D printer and free space on the other.

How much space do you have? What work is it for? If it’s just an area for writing/other stuff why not just get a 2nd desk next to the first one so you can keep the standing desk?

I’d recommend looking into a Husky adjustable height workbench. Very sturdy and varying sizes, up to 6 feet long.

Uplift desk. I shifted from using two IKEA Alex drawers when my shoulders began to ache, and the adjustable desk made a noticeable difference.

  14. I wouldn’t write off the standing desk idea. Getting under the desk is really convenient and opens up the room when you can roll your chair under there, or easily access everything under it.

I went with the epic Uplift Desk legs and a custom plywood desktop that I finished myself, which is obscenely huge ( 92″ by 40″ )

i’m planning to get a kitchen dining table for my next desk. they go up to 9′ long and 4′ deep, while costing less than desks that never even seem to reach those dimensions. i’m not sure why it’s not a more common suggestion!

I used a 6ft bamboo countertop resting on a 2×4 on the back and an ikea leg.

  17. I’ve made a custom desktop with a big plank and some table legs found at any DIY store.

I do play guitar myself, and I’ve never come across a chair for both gaming and guitar playing. Do you have some recommendations? What’s yours ?

And for the people reading this, do you also have recommendations? I just need something comfy, with foldable armrests 🙂

Do what I and many other did: go to Lowe’s or Home Depot, and buy yourself a butcher block. It’s a large piece of wood, intended for tabletops, absolutely incredible quality. And then just buy a wood stain to wipe onto it to your preferred color.

Your appreciation for the feel increases with time lol wood just is timelessly classy and you’ll develop a nice patina with time.

Butcher block from Ikea on 2 Alex drawers.
Or skip 1 Alex drawer and buy the MITTBACK trestle (also ikea).

    Can’t go wrong.

Don’t use a desk. If you see something advertised as a desk it means you’re going to be charged extra for what is effectively a skinny table.

When I last upgraded I bought a solid oak dining table. Has all the space I’m likely to need.
