Same reason why in Resident evil games you need the unique key to the doors instead of shooting it open or kicking it down.

IRL the bullet would bounce of the lock and hit your skull. So I guess gaming logic don’t follow movie logic?

This doesn’t really work in reality as well as you’d think it does with a small caliber handgun. The smart play would just be to smash the glass, clear out any broken shards, and reach through to unlock it.
Of course, it’s this way because game mechanics.

There is even more. You need a screwdriver. And you will find a lot of screwdrivers in that area, but they won’t work. You need a special one… Yellow…

That little glock wouldnt do anything to the padlock. But now that I look at the image, what the hell is the bolt even attached to? The whole thing doesnt make any sense. If this was real it would be extremely easy to kick open.
very minor spoilers ahead (not for AW2, but for the game Control, which exists in the same universe).

>!I actually think this game specifically has a great in story reason that things work the way they do. I try to play the whole game with dream logic in mind, because I think that’s a big part of how the story is being told. I played Control AFTER playing AW2, and tbh, knowing that they both exist in the same universe completely changes the way I see the events of both AW games. Control very much feels like you’re in a dream from the get go, and that’s absolutely intentional. To me, it stands to reason that if Control is possibly a dream, then maybe the events of AW1 and AW2 are also a dream. I have dreams regularly that use video game logic, so it doesn’t seem so far fetched. Not to say that they designed this specific mechanic around that, or with that in mind. It’s just to say that video game logic doesn’t bother me so much in this game.!<

Also, just to mention. Look at how that latch is attached to the door and the frame. You don’t need a gun for that. A good solid kick or two would probably snap that thing off.

ALSO ALSO, locks are not hard to bypass with a set of lockpicks. I always thought it made little sense that someone in this scenario wouldn’t both know how to pick locks and have a set of lockpicks. Even the cheapo set that I have would be able to bypass most of the locks in the game. This is less in regard to the padlocks, and more just the standard door locks.

That hair tho, looks insanely good.

Still not as bad as video game protagonists’ greatest enemy; waist-high impassable rubble.

Biggest miss opportunity was re4 remake getting rid of shooting through/down wooden doors. Still a great remake though.

Wasnt it proven that shooting on most lock wont work?

Because Alan Wake didnt write it like that, you cant just re-write the book.

This game is terrible about video game logic ***but***, you wouldn’t be able to do that anyway.
Ironically, what you’re saying is video game logic. irl if you try to shoot a padlock with a pistol 1 nothing will happen to the lock and 2 the bullet will ricochet into your leg, and you’ll still be on the other side of the door.
ArdentLobster
Just break the closest window pane and unlock the door. Don’t even need to waste a bullet
WayneZer0
shoot metal locks off does not worked. unless you using a 50 bmg . 9 will only deform it. you have a better chamce attacking the door hinges, the door or the door frame.

its the same as the “i could survive that” or “i could just that” when looking at a 10ft gap with a 100ft drop. (i could totally jump it tho just saying, like idk why my character cant)

Shoot, you can just kick it.

And don’t forget the classic need a keycard to open the doors. Why can’t we just pry the doors open with a crowbar?
