I Bought this CPU on ebay from gr_liquidators and one of the pins is missing just wondering if anyone knows if it will work without this pin or if i will need to send it back? i have 30 days to send it back but idk if i will have my graphics card by that time so is there any way i could test this cpu without the graphics card?

You can just boot your pc normally without a monitor, if it starts you are safe to assume it works.
i believe it should still work but honestly you should get it replaced regardless
That is a ground pin, so it should be fine. But if you paid for a working CPU I don’t see why you should accept one with a missing pin.
Going by the pinout diagram for AM4, this would correspond to a ground pin for an MA_DM pin. I dont know what that pin is used for but its *probably* not critical like a DRAM or PCIe pin would be.
Just try it? Ffs
If I’m not mistaken, that’s the Precision Boost pin. Without it, the boost would be imprecise and you’re looking at a 5%-10% performance penalty without it.
A skilled master can fix it just in one minute.
If the listing didn’t specify there was a broken pin I’d send it back, even if it is a ground pin. If seller refuses to take it back, escalate with eBay.
Get what you paid for.
Keep in mind that thermal paste can be conductive and could be shorting those pins.
The missing pin is possibly fine, but if the CPU was powered up with the thermal paste like that it’s possibly fucked.
[Edited for accuracy]
A lot of the outer pins seem to be covered in thermal paste too. I’d return this in a heartbeat.
Make a claim, the pic you sent of the listing does not say that it’s missing a pin.
Even if it works, you didn’t pay for a chip that’s missing a pin.
Nah you got a 5899x
Gotta find a pin assignment grid to determine that, some do nothing, some are redundant, some are optional features that you could do without, some may result in instability, some are essential.
Unless you got a great deal or can determine the pin, I would return
It’s one of many VSS pins. It should still work. Still send it back.
Should you decide to keep it, electrical contact cleaner should dissolve away all the thermal past mess.
[https://imgur.com/a/20BK1b1](https://imgur.com/a/20BK1b1) Its labeled as VSS. VSS stands for Voltage Source Supply. Several threads saying they too had a VSS pin or two missing and it worked fine. I”d personally return it for another one without missing pins.
So we are just going to not worry about the thermal paste on a ton of the pins???
Send it back
dude just send it back.
Even if the system still booted I would never use a CPU missing even 1 pin. It’s there for a reason.
It’s broken. Return it.
Welp, that’s why it was on eBay
That pin is a ground pin so yes, it will work. I would probably return it regardless just because you don’t know if anything else on it is bad.
I literally looked at this listing today. Not the only 5900x missing pins for close to $200 and unmarked as such.
I would only pay dirt cheap for this. You can buy an open box CPU for that price.
