Had that same problem with an HP laptop I found at the local thrift store. It looked completely fine on the outside but once I opened up the bottom and seen the insides the battery was like an actual pillow! Got a replacement battery and I’ve been using it for a while now 👍🏻
Your laptop has now been turned into a desktop because you should definitely throw the battery away

I’ll be glad when we move beyond lithium ion.
I have that happen to three Dell laptops at work, all three barely out of warranty period. XPS 13s. We have never bought Dell since then.
