So, I delidded my i7-8700k to quiet down the fans, and it totally worked. My temps dropped from around 45 degrees Celsius at idle to a cool 27-31 degrees. I’ve been tweaking my settings to get the most out of my CPU, aiming for 4.7 GHz with 1.27 volts. Cinebench and Aida64 were no problem, but Prime95 keeps tripping me up. I even upgraded to Arctic MX-6z thermal paste, but still no luck. I’ve seen conflicting advice online—some say Prime95 isn’t realistic, while others insist it’s the gold standard for stability. Despite being able to game and do light editing at 4.7 GHz, more intense projects crash unless I dial it back to 4.4 GHz.

I pass Cinebench, Memtest, Heaven, Video games(CS2, ETC) @4.7 GH with 1.27

But fail:
High Quality Video editing projects with numerous effects. Usually have to render in place which takes time.

I finally passed Prime 95 at 4.7 @ 1.3 with offset of -4, since I know Im stable 4.4 GH
– I also ran my projects that failed in the past without render in place an editing program called DaVinci Resolve and now that I have my CPU stable it can render all the way through without crashing the program. I’ve been blaming DaVinci resolve for a while now.

Conclusion Prime95 might be unrealistic but passing it really does mean you have a stable CPU

I want 4.7 GH @ no higher than 1.35.
Anyway to make this happen? All YouTube videos stress test using Cinebench, etc. I can pass those tests but I can’t pass Prime95 or hard renders without tweaking settings in Blander or Davinci Resolve.

It’s frustrating not finding clear answers, so any help or advice would be appreciated.

    Prime needs a lot of voltage to be stable compared to other tests, there’s no way around it. However make sure you set LLC correctly otherwise it could hold you back.
