So, I was using my PC as usual, but I noticed that my max GPU temps were rising a bit. When I checked if the fans were spinning correctly, I saw ants marching on my GPU and on top of my case. They were even coming out from the heatsink of the GPU.
That’s when I got worried and disassembled it. They were eating the thermal pads and thermal paste, so I had to use a hairdryer to blow them out of there. Since I don’t have any spare thermal paste, I had to spread the remaining paste inside the GPU on itself.
Now my temperatures are up by 20°C, and I’ve cleaned all of my PC with 99% IPA and used an anti-insect spray on the table. Later, another set of ants appeared in the exact same place, doing the exact same thing, eating my GPU alive.
I don’t know how they got here, it was like they spawned out of nowhere. There’s no place in my room where ants nest, and they even bypassed the anti insect spray. Now I’m worried sick about destroying my PC with ant acids.

My guess is that there were still eggs left over from your initial clean. Did you clean all of your PC?
This happened in Darren Aronofsky’s “Pi (1998)”. You’re not tampering in God’s domain by trying to find the mathematic principles hidden within nature are you?
This look like those black butt fire ants. This isn’t a small issue.

>the red imported fire ant, Solenopsis invicta Buren, have an affinity for electrical utilities (Drees 1998). In Texas alone, costs associated with fire ant damages to electrical and communications equipment totaled $146.5 million per year
These specific ants will infest ALL your electronics. You must source out their nest or nests and wipe them out. You are at war. If you ignore them they will end up costing you so much money.
Ant bait traps don’t work on them so well. Because they just go for electronics first. Walk along wires and nest INSIDE electronics.
Dude you have literal ants in your PC.
ANTS.
IN PC.
Call exterminator.
The ants have claimed your computer. No takebacks.
Must be warm inside..
How come ants can’t get sick??
They have ANTibodies….. da dum bshh
Overclock, cook them.
First, just take your whole setup and move it across the room. Second, take a break on using it for a while. Third, by some new pads and paste. Fourth, eliminate the ants entry points into your house and deal with the remainder.
Once the ants lose track of the pheromones left by others, they will then follow a new pheromone trail that indicates a source of sustenance. It’s your job to make sure you remove their food source, forcing them to seek out a new food source or else they will persist. – Also many of the brands that deal with ant repellent, put nasty shit in them to eradicate the ants…. You don’t need to eradicate them… You just need to eliminate entry points and deter re-entry. Don’t go all ant genocide lol.
Well, they could improve thermals, as long as there are enough cool-ants.
What ? World Just did a 360 in my Mind.
What are those beasts liking ON electronic parts ?
Are they Russian / Korean Nanosoldiers ?
What IS happening Here ?
I never knew this could happen. New fear unlocked for me.
how the hell does that even happen
Throw out the whole pc at that point
Disable all Case Fans and overclock that Shit. Show them the sun.
The ants go marching on the gpu, hurrah! Hurrah!
Hey guys I’m a total slob and need to know why I got bugs in my house and electronics. Any help?
they literally eat performance.
Ants are trying to build there first computer
ask them how it tastes
This is why I despise ants the same level as mosquitoes. They raid your food, invade your closet, chew on your electronics and they had the audacity to bite if you get in their way. Literal n@ zis of bugs!
Cook them alive
Did Jensen from Nvidia sent those ants to make you upgrade to new 4090, by the way he keeps his GPU in the oven to prevent ant infestation 🤣. JK/
I had ant infestation thing happen to me long time back but never an actual GPU eating ants, they had infested my old non mechanical keyboard with that mushy switches which have soft rubber layer. And also one time they had infested my Logitech G633s headphones and it was only for the external cushions. It’s really hard to get rid of them as you need to find out the origin from where they come and destroy their root nest or you could ant proof your desk and it’s not really easy as you should make sure your desk doesn’t have any leads other than their table legs and pest control the legs of the table where it connects the desk.
Nuke the site from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.
Try running debug.exe
Someone hid some food in the PSU compartment.
