    I have one in my server PC. I can network it to any of our other computers on the rare case I need to use it.

    I bought one yesterday to replace my 10 year old drive. that I got from a Fujitsu PC. Internal mechanism wasn’t clamping the disc and made a horrible grinding noise when trying to spin up.

    Interestingly the manufacture date on the new drive is December 2022.

    I wish I could myself but sadly 4k blu-rays have so much DRM it’s not possible 🙁

    yep! had to move it down a couple slots so i could install a couple type C ports, a TF card reader, and a couple USB 3.0 ports in the 3.5″ drive bay (it was using sata power and i didn’t feel like adding a third sata power cable)

    doesnt get a whole lot of use but it sure is nice not having to go scrounge for an external disk drive when i need to play a CD or DVD. actually considering adding or upgrading to a bluray player but idk if its worth it.

    Absolutely, I use a Blu-ray drive for ripping my DVDs and Blurays.

    Having physical media like movies is more important than ever, when you’ve got digital copies of movies people “own” being taken away from them like what recently happened on PlayStations.

    On my Linux based home media server I do. It’s kinda helpful when ripping DVDs. 😛

    I just bought a blu-ray last month. Decided since they are pulling streaming titles at random I’d better start making hard copies of stuff again.

    Yes in my jank Home Theater/Living room PC.
    My parents had hundreds of DVD’s, a lot of Collector Edition Movie sets and TV shows. Many of which aren’t available anywhere online.

    I kept them because I lost both my parents at young age, so it’s nice to watch a movie or show every now and again that I did when I was kid.

    A Pro about having so many DVD’s is that i can watch them whenever I want without having to worry about Streaming network’s scheduled maintenance, internet slowdowns/shutdowns, or constant buffering.

    A Con is the space, I have a few shelves fully stocked along with some Binders full.

    I haven’t bothered storing them on drives because I figured setting up a server rack would just be the same as a dvd shelf since they’re both disk with data. Plus it’s cheaper for me to buy a used laptop for ~$100 like a Lenovo T440 that has a optical drive than spending even more money and time transferring them to Hard Drives.

    Just threw a bunch of bluray and dvd burners in the trash.

    I have like 10x 4TB hdds just sitting in a box.. I definitely dont need to burn stuff anymore.

    10 ish years ago I moved across the country and threw out like 5000 DVDR burned with shit on it and never burned a thing since.

    Externally, but yeah. That’s one of the few drawbacks of the 1000D, imo.

    It’s wild to see a PC with a slot for this on the front, with USB 3.0 next to it even haha. But yeah when I built this PC I wasn’t sure how much I’d use it anymore but didn’t want the availability to be gone, so I just picked up a cheapy USB one I can slap on if I need it.

    I have two LG CD/DVD burners. I burn discs all the time, especially CD-Rs.

    Just installed a BluRay player last month.

    I’ve noticed streaming platforms are editing movies/series to suit “modern sensibilities”.

    Yup. Mine came with a slot loading DVD burner, and I added a LG Blu ray burner a few years ago. Every once in a while someone asks me to burn a project onto disc.

    My old 7700K build is a blu-ray ripper machine. Dual blu-ray drives. I used it recently to rip all my PS2 games to ROMs for Steam Decks.

    I did the same, the Sony news spooked me, I’m copying all all my blurays to a 16 TB NAS may need more space at the end.

    I haven’t had an optical drive since about 2008. The very very rare moments when I did, i’d grab the external dvd-rw drive from work but that was literally like 3 times max.

    I have a Blu-Ray RW drive on my builds to rip any new Blu-Ray or DVD purchase to add to my Plex server. Fuck the streaming services.
