I feel this. I hardly even game anymore, my PC is above and beyond what most people have, yet I’m still iching to built the latest and greatest.
I try to limit myself to a minimum five year upgrade cycle for phones and PCs.
The craving is real though.

Eventually though I’m planning to upgrade once the 8000 and 5000 series arrives, and I’ll finally get to try out ray tracing.

– Monitor upgrade
– LED lights
– Ergonomic chair (I have four spinal injuries and total disability from them — I can not recommend steelcase enough)
– New desk
– New gaming mat
– New case
– New water bottle

– Come hang out on my hacker-free private red dead online server

Go play old as games that are super fun and so much more fun then you realize or you may have forgotten how fun they are and often better. Sure you can go buy a new PC so you can play starfield.. or you just go play the mass effect series remastered for only a few bucks and probably have more fun with it.
Do you have good peripherals? You got a good chair and desk to sit at?

Bruv, still running an i5 4670k as my media centre pc. I just finally switched the video card from a gtx 780 for a rt6600. It doesn’t game much, the kids use it for Minecraft and a few other simple games, the new video card made a big difference but now you can definitely feel the old processor.
Problem is, for most of the time it’s good enough for what it does. I ache to build a new one, ache.

Same. I ended up gifting my old PC and building a new one. Lower end newer parts. And it was noticeably snappier.
(BTW not windows install related. I do a fresh install of whatever OS I feel like playing around with every few months as well had upgraded the SSD to an NVMe. Actually put a slower NVMe in my new PC.)

I do occasionally get the urge to buy newer pc parts, but my PC is still a beast for 1440p OLED gaming. My PC is 5800x, 32gb ram, EVGA 3080ti FTW3 Ultra, and 6tb of SSD.

When I switched laptops from an MX130 to an RTX2060, it felt like such a drug rush.
My laptop gpu is busted and a switching to its iGPU feels like a nerf on euphoria. I plan to buy a new setup with a 4070/ti or an 7800xt to enjoy myself.

Yep, 7 year old rig. Besides AAA 2024 gaming, it does everything I need it to do without an issue. I’ve got Windows 11 23H2 on it even though the processor isn’t supported and nearly 100TB of storage all connected to a 4K display. It looks and feels great. I don’t plan to really upgrade until it dies. Next upgrade might be an additional 32GB of RAM to get me to 64GB.

Before I read comments. I had 6700k oc’d 5ghz (yes, took a long time but yes). 32GB ram. A 980ti oc’d 375hz over. Then, I had a 2080 super. Then I had a 3080. Add in some ssd upgrades then M2’s.
I just retired it December 2023. I was 100fps plus ultra everything at 1080p. 144 a lot of the time.
Yes know feeling. I just went to am5 7900x3d 32GB ram, and my 3080 which I got used for under 400 3 months ago. Great upgrade but really I could have gotten another year or two out of that 6700k. I only play campaigns, single player or coop. If it’s good fps I’d high and settings are to your liking then stick it out.

Same here, since windows 11 wont natively support TPM 1.5 I finally switched to Ubuntu. Everything is working super fast, my 120hz Screen is getting rendered better as in Windows 10. i7 3770k and GTX1080 and 32GB RAM still rocking hard.
Think of all the food you can buy with this money, instead of getting a performance uplift. Then you see it isn’t worth it.

Dont do it if your pc still run everything you want to run on it, as comparison:
I changed my 9 years old pc 3 years ago, my old pc could not run any game released for ps4/xbox one generation (Crash bandicoot remake, for example)
When i got my new pc it was so satisfactory to play new games on high or max graphics at 1080p that feel unreal. So the invest was worthy.
On the other hand, i had a mid class smartphone (+3 years) that run genshin impact at minium graphics, then i changed to a flagship last year that is capable to run it at max graphics at 40~60 fps…. when i put my hands on it it was not so satisfactory… in the end the new phone does the same that the old phone, just more efficient, obviously it comes with other perks (better camera, faster in some task) but too big invest to do exactly the same than in the old phone.
Also as other says, better check you have a good chair and ergonomic stuff or if you dont need anything else where that invest could give you more return.
