Looks like you can replace the battery from a quick search. I have no idea how complicated that is though.

    Hey, buddy, replace the battery.

Watchu mean by “Never even beat it”.
What the …. PLAY THE GAME !!!!!
You had 20 years to beat it, DO IT NOW !!

  4. Pork_Chompk

Just forget it bro. If you haven’t beat it after 20 years, I think it’s time to find a new hobby.

  5. HampsterBowlingBall

Guess you gotta do it in one shot now.

  6. Proper_Corgi5045

I just replaced the battery in my Red and Gold. It was not difficult I believe you can do it too.

If you’re worried about changing the battery yourself a lot of local game shops will do it for a reasonable price! I paid $5 for my local game store to change the battery in my copy of pokemon crystal 🙂

The cartridge has a battery inside that needs to be changed in order to hold a save. Any retro game store will install one for you for a small fee or you can do it yourself, you need a special screwdriver to remove the screw on the back.

It’s a damn shame they don’t make these things last the 30 years it takes to finish them.

Wish it was in the switch online gb library

My original red lost its save right after silver came out, it then just became a challenge to beat the game on a Gameboy color before the batteries died, you should try that, it’s fun as hell

Action replay let you play surfing pikachu

  13. HeartachetoHouston

Yall know any good emulators online for this? The one I used to use shut down a few years ago. I’ve looked periodically but without success. Haven’t done it recently though.

Ouch. It was a sad day when it happened to me. 151 in Pokedex done legit through trades and special events for Mew and Surfing Pikachu all gone.

  17. thelustymoogle

I literally just bought batteries to replace mine (same game, yellow edition). Package on its way!

  18. knightfenris

Open it up and put a new battery in it, had to do it like 10 years ago

  19. Smash “Let’s Go Pikachu” . It’s actually pretty nostalgic but with decent graphics

  20. MindCanvas

My boy! Gameboy emulator with rom, if you want to play it again 🙂

  21. McDangerCat

Just leave it on til you beat it. You’ve clearly never played it before.

If you are concerned about replacing the battery yourself most used game stores will be able to do this for you. Search your local area or the next nearest city for vintage game shops and contact them to ask if they can replace the battery for you if you provide the components, and buy the battery online for cheap.

    Won’t save doesn’t mean it isn’t beatable, now it’s a challenge too

  24. TypicalWolverine9404

Hope it wasn’t because you turned off while saving.  I did that to my copy of Silver when I was 8 or 9. 😭

  25. Yabreath_isSmelly

That game is closer to 30 years old, just sayin
