MX-4 is high tier (budget friendly, high tier) thermal paste. Unless youre running kingpin extreme or a paste from thermal grizzly.. or maybe like mx-6 even tho they have about the same results, dont worry about repasting.
Also its done by a machine so its going to be more level than youll ever get it

I don’t know if my 5800x runs hotter than usual or if I’m doing something wrong, but with two coolers (one 3x 120mm radiator and later on one 2x 140mm radiator) my CPU is always running hotter than the temps I see others getting. It idles at like 42c iirc, but I’m regularly seeing temps in the upper 70s to low 90s when gaming.
Edit: It seems to throttle itself at 91° so I’m not worried about damaging it and it runs fine other than the temps. I don’t worry about it, but I do wonder why others seem to have such lower temps than I do in their builds.

always check viscocity and eveness of the paste but using the preappyed is fine. if youy see Temp numbers off the expected, clean then change. its not a big deal. use a lot. and trust thermodynamic.

Depends on the brand of the cooler and what paste they use, but I usually keep the pre-applied one unless it’s really bad. MX 4 is good paste anyways. Unless I am building something really high end, that would benefit from a premium paste, I won’t bother changing it.

So I did an experiment with this, as a bet with a friend.
Last year my old rig died on me and I bought a new system with the then brand new 7950x CPU.
I knew that AMD Ryzen CPUs tend to get a bit hot, so I bought the H150 elite LCD from Corsair.
When the parts came over I made a bet with a friend who supported that pre-applied and user-applied paste would make no difference, whereas I disagreed.
The terms were if he was right, he would have the satisfaction of being right and vice versa but in case of any damage he’d cover the costs, because he was so sure.
One full year of using pre-applied paste it looked ok even without undervolting the 7950x but my idle temps in the winter would be 45-50 on CPU and 36 – 40 on liquid.
Under load, the CPU would frequently go up to 92-93 (95 on stress tests) and liquid 48-55.
About a month ago, when the year was finally over, I opened my PC up, removed the cooler, only to find that the pre-applied paste had dried up completely, and had a similar consistency to that of chalk.
A lot of isopropyl alcohol later, I used a generous amount of Arctic’s MX6 and booted up.
My temps are now 40-45 idle CPU and 30-32 liquid, and under load CPU gets all the way up to 65-66 (didn’t run any stress tests yet, I might when I get home later on) and liquid goes up to 37.
The above temps were noted during the winter, with an ambient temperature of ~22 Celsius. I didn’t include any summer readings because it gets really hot here (usually over 44 Celcius.
With the above data, it’s safe to assume that keeping a pre-applied paste would definitely work, but if you apply your own, you might get better results under load.
TLDR; made a bet about keeping pre-applied paste instead of using my own, universe did not implode. 1 year later switched to MX6, saw little difference in idle temps, but a vast difference under load.

There is a number of good reasons too. While yes this cooler comes with decent paste.
– Many don’t say what it is that’s applied.
– The item could have been stored poorly at temps or humidity that could affect the stock paste.
– The cooler could have been stocked for a prolonged time
It’s cheap to even get thermal grizzly 1g tubes. Which is more than enough for an application. Takes all of 5minutes to clean off the stock and reapply. In the end it will come down to personal preference.
