How do I keep my cat off my desktop?

He always loves to sit here while I’m working or gaming. Last week he stepped on the power button while I was in a meeting. I had to keep a bottle over the button to stop him from doing that. He blocks the top case fans and makes my cooling less efficient, and the airflow over his fur generates a ton of static electricity and he will shock me when I touch him. If I pick him up and move him he just goes right back up there. What can I do to keep him off it without blocking my case fans?

    Search for Scat Mats on Amazon, little plastic spikes makes it uncomfortable for them to traverse or sit and lay on them.

    If you’re looking for an actual answer the solution is to get a small box, any kind of cardboard shipping box will do, then put a small electric blanket folded inside. This can go nearby on the floor or propped up on a side table. Your cat has seeks heat like a predator but also likes to be near you.

    Additional edit…you all should keep a fire extinguisher handy at all times.

    i know it sounds crazy but… get decoy PC, worked for me (cat sits on wife’s PC now lol but also there’s no fans on top and buttons are on the front side so small chance to overheat or press shutdown/restart)

    Cats like warm comfy tall places.. The PC tower warm and “comfy” enough and about the highest spot in the room, by nature cats like to be up high as they are safer from predators and can see prey.

    The best advice other than keeping the cat out of the room, is to put some sort of shelf / cat bed on the wall (with access for the cat to get up to it..) Higher up and hopefully the cat will choose that spot instead.

    Here is Harvey seriously considering trying to jump up on my $$$ vintage Sony ES stack… which was vetoed by myself.

    There maybe “hope” in your case as your cat isn’t one of them Ginger boys… they are completely ungovernable in most regards.

    My cat jumped onto my 3000$ desktop in the middle of the night last year, tipped it over onto the floor. Safe to say it was the last time he did that.

    Because he fucked the computer.

    I placed a sheet of aluminum foil on the top of my case when I wasn’t using it. Only took 1 jump onto it and the cat has never wanted to go near it since.
