Source: Hardware Unboxed. I was expecting near 4080 performance. Quite disappointing.

I’d been thinking it’d be so much faster, huge letdown. 4080 Super will be far better value at $999 if it’s like 25% faster for 25% more money.

I know to only expect like 2-4% from the 4080 Super over 4080, but still that’d make it far faster than the 4070 Ti Super.

Seeing this stuff makes me really not regret doing a 4070ti build last month lol

  3. Far_Atmosphere_3853

happy to see 2060s in such lists.

Guessing you skipped the intro where he said he mainly used the msi ventus model that apparently has a flawed vbios and has less performance than it should.

Still not going to be an impressive card I think but it does matter.

For a second I forgot that its a $850 card when I compared it to my RX 6950 XT I paid $530 for. (Even though it normally goes for $600)

That 7900 XT is $710 on amazon right now.

Idk… that 4000 generation just continues to be unimpressive imo.

what is the difference in 4k? I would think that in that resolution the higher capacity of the vram and bigger memory bus would have some impact

  7. SpikedIntuition

I wonder why Linus isn’t reviewing the new Super cards?

  8. f1careerover

I remember people claiming that it would be better than the 4080 lol

  9. the_abortionat0r

Well, thats expected as thats what happened with every other super before it.

Its funny how I told people the supers aren’t going to magically jump up a tier and I was downvoted to all hell by the fanboys.

It just continues the trend of the RTX 4000 series of not offering particularly good value for money. And I don’t think Nvidia even cares anymore whether or not their pricing is competitive. Until about 2022 their gaming division made up most of their revenue, but by the end of this year they are expecting their data center business to bring in 7 times the revenue of their gaming division. I kind of expect them to abandon gaming entirely within the next couple of year and becoming entirely focused on their data center business. They can finally be done dealing with the AIB partners and consumers they seem to have so much barely-concealed disdain for.

Probably more like 4070 with good rng on silicon lottery.

PSA : Do not buy MSI Ventus 3x 4070 TI Super. It has severe issues

    >NVIDIA provided the MSI Ventus sample to us directly, to act as “reference baseline” solution in our reviews—due to the lack of a Founders Edition. While I knew that the reference is expected to be slower, the numbers still seemed odd, around 5% too low, so I reached out to NVIDIA to confirm. Other colleagues confirmed that their MSI Ventus numbers are low, too, and that other cards run fine, so it’s not setup/driver/operator problem; it’s also not a thermal issue. Over the weekend, NVIDIA quickly reached out to MSI to confirm and worked on a BIOS update, which was delivered to us on Sunday. In their email NVIDIA confirmed that performance is “approximately 5% below expected figures” and included a BIOS update (from 95.03.45.40.58 to version 95.03.45.40.DC) that improves performance, but it’s still “approximately 3% below expected figures”. I updated the card immediately and ran a full round of testing, confirming a performance increase, but only +1%. I sent this feedback to NVIDIA. Earlier today, NVIDIA informed reviewers that MSI found additional performance, which is can be unlocked via a second BIOS update. All results in this review are with the today’s newest BIOS (95.03.45.40.F0), I retested everything. Between testing I never removed the cooler, to ensure the results don’t get affected by thermal paste—photos were shot 10 minutes ago.

Even after these there are still issue.

Other 4070 TI Super cards from TechpowerUp shows the proper gains with it roughly matching (about 1/2 fps slower at 4k) compared to the 3090ti and 7900xt making ~10% over the 4070 TI

The MSI card is so bad the 4070TI S it is even slower than 4070 Ti at times

Selfishly, I wish I saw how my 3080 12gb stacked up against the comp

  14. Wow that’s a big disappointment.

    Time to buy a 7900XT for 200 euro less than a 4070 Ti S

  15. Hrmerder

Look at that GOAT card 6950 XT up there runnin’ with em still!

  16. Aschriel

Yep… just gonna wait and see what 5000 series looks like.

  17. Cultural_Parfait7866

Moore’s Law Is Dead has been reporting for some time this is what it would be so I’m not surprised

  18. BMWtooner

But but but the VRAM… It should be 200% faster now bcuz memory bus width wider 😨

  19. Guru3d reviewed the Asus Tuf, MSI Ventus, and Gainward Panther. All roughly the same.

This card was so hyped, fell flat. AMD is going to sit on their hands now in terms of any more price cuts.

  20. prodlowd

I wonder why the XTX is not on the list, with it being cheaper than the 4080.

  21. Adrian-The-Great

If the 4070 super didn’t sell out, this definitely isn’t.

  22. _gadgetFreak

At this rate, next nvidia X070 series cards will leap frog And X900 XT cards

  23. MyFilmmakingJourney

At least the 4070S seems like a decent upgrade. I heard it’s about 15% better than the base 4070?

  24. Samz_175

I’m waiting for 5000 series cards to drop and then I will get a 4090 for cheaper. That’s the only card that goes to the next level and is really future proof. These cards make little sense, just a repackaging the same thing

  25. ShiddedandFard

Damn my 3080ti gets more frames at 1440p on average across different games than that. Disappointing indeed.

  26. Games_sans_frontiers

I’m just wondering if there was a reason why the 7900 XTX isn’t considered in these charts but the 4080 is? It seems to imply that the 7900 XT is a direct competitor to the 4080 but I think price / performance wise the XTX is the direct competitor to the 4080.

  27. juggarjew

MSI really fucked up lol wonder if something hardware wise is limiting performance. How did MSI or Nvidia not catch this in their own internal testing? Really speaks to this card being a major afterthought.
