I miss Gravis. Their Xterminator Digital was a marvel. You’re never going to find a modern equivalent of a gamepad that has six action/face buttons, three extra optional face buttons, throttle, POV hat, analogue flippers as well as the usual analogue stick, d-pad and digital triggers. An amazing controller from somewhere around 1997.
For decades now I have been waiting for some gamepad manufacturer to realise what Gravis had already realised back in the 90’s – your middle fingers rest naturally in the groove *behind* the prongs, not also at the top of the controller like your index fingers. Gravis placed their digital triggers there instead of sharing the space at the top in a cramped position with the index fingers, which on some controllers you have to stretch slightly to reach.
The only thing that aged the controller for me was the lack of a second analogue stick and the fact that it used the game port on sound cards. If not for that I’d still be happily using the very same pad decades after I bought it. It was a very comfortable pad.
Never was able to get one but I had a great collection of shareware floppies. A local store had a bin full of 99 cent games that I regularly sifted through.
