So my coworker bought a prebuilt at Xmas after deciding building his new PC was a bit too much effort, but then started having performance issues playing his favorite game (scum). He concluded his 4060 gpu was his bottleneck so he bought this gigabyte 4090. When he told me, I reminded him he would likely need a new psu to power the 4090 so he went with a corsair 1000w gold series.
I wasn’t sure what size case his prebuilt was in but when we left work I jokingly asked him what he was going to cut out the clearance hole for his new gpu with and he jokingly (or so I thought) responded with “a dremel”. We laughed, but later he sent me these photos. He had to cut out a hole with tin snips and remove 2 fans but he certainly made it “fit” aside from also having to leave the side of the case off due to the gpu power cables.
He’s fully aware his PC is now a meme lol.
Thoughts?

This is way easier and less expensive than buying a new case, and remounting everything. Why would you not bust out the tin snips to cut up some thin sheet metal?
I kinda did the same thing. I had a 3060 then upgraded to a 4080 and didn’t even think to see how much bigger it was before hand. I have a cooler master haf 932 and because of the hdd and the disk drive cages it’s too long.

You should tell your friend that there are many decent cases that aren’t even expensive. If he’s willing to mod this piece of trash and he’s got it to work, as hard as that is, he would have no problems just swapping the components into a case where all this fits.

Many questions rises, what the heck is this cheap motherboard which proudly clame to be pcie 3.0? I thought only food thing with pre-built is cable management, but the cpu cable in the middle hurts me… Also what kind of cheap ass I’d this aio watercooling?
I generally applaud people with creative solutions like this, but I’m worried that there’s so little space between the gpu and the side panel, that he’s gonna have to bend the 12vhpwr extremely tight…. It’s a meltdown just waiting to happen.
PCI Express 3.0 too, what a shame. He could’ve kept the case intact, sell the prebuilt and use that money towards some new parts.
If I had a case that I wanted to put a GPU in but it wouldn’t fit, and there was no way to return it and get a smaller one, this is 110% what I would do.
