Maintenance uplink is my guess. Cyberware designers can’t think of every possible way something could break, and it would be nice for them to be able to hotfix stuff so your arm doesn’t blow itself up

This is a real thing you can do in Shadowrun. You can totally turn off wireless connectivity for your cyberware. *However*, you lose part of the functionality, so there is a tradeoff.
Because some components of your body are controlled wirelessly.
Because for once, without an implant you couldn’t pay big ticket stuff, you couldn’t ride the metro, couldn’t ID yourself anywhere (Hotel reservations etc.). You would essentially live like someone nowadays who has no email account, no phone, no ID or drivers license, and no way to pay anywhere that doesn’t take cash. Which is all beneficial for the corporations and governments so we are already heading for that future with cash disappearing more and more. Full transparency and control for corps and govs

For one thing, it puts you at a disadvantage in a society that uses that technology for day to day operations.
Take someone who refuses to use a debit card and instead relies on checks to pay for everyday items. They’re at a disadvantage vs a person who doesn’t rely on the “old way” to do things. A lot of businesses can’t even process checks anymore.
This is a common theme among a lot of cyberpunk media, like the movie *Upgrade* or the book *Feed* by M.T Anderson.
Uh cuz u also cut urself off from a lot of the things u use in ur daily life. I mean V’s phone, money, medical systems, etc all run through his personal link. I’m fairly certain that basic stuff is done very early in ur life because of how integrated it has to be for daily use.
You do need to have those gadgets online in order to get needed security updates, but you could turn that connectivity OFF when you are on a commando stealth operation.

TECHNICIAN: Sir, I think you should look at this.
OFFICER: What is it?
TECHNICIAN: There’s a new device trying to connect to the WiFi in the secure materials center.
OFFICER: So?
TECHNICIAN: The device is named “Elite Mercenary Roadhog’s Badass Motherfucker Cyberarm.”
It would also make you a weakling who’s unable to use any cyberware.

Connecting your nervous system is how you get the crazy speed and control. Sure you can just not but the power you give up is also real.
I mean if people don’t want to be on call they could just not get cellphones right? No way would not having a cell phone let alone a smart phone would be limiting in today’s culture. /s
It’s pretty much the same thing. If a technology is so commonplace that it’s an integral element of everyday life, you can’t NOT have it. Calls, sure transfers, and more seem to require access to the net so not having implants or connection seems like it would hurt more than not.
The same reason everyone just ow a a smart phone.

Because quickhacks never existed before 2077 because they were added as a gameplay mechanic, the only way to kill someone as a netrunner prior in the TTRPGs was to either fry their brain use daemons (requires them to be a netrunner that is doing a run), hijack something that could kill them (like a turret), or killing them the normal way. You couldn’t hack cyberware (or agents) at all without doing it the old fashioned way (pulling it apart, nodding it, and putting it back together)
