This is pretty accurate, a bit more consequential for her than just falling off a bike but still accurate
This is what I don’t like about many of Cyberpunk protagonists. Not all but most.
They do something stupid knowing full well it will bring corporate wrath upon them. And then they complain how corporations are bad. Like … what do you expect after stealing from them a highly experimental technology and killing dozens of their employees ranging from bodyguards, soldiers or agents or sometimes straight up normal people just working.
Now there are protagonists that have actual reasons to hate corporations. Like those exploited directly by the corp from their childhood.
And once I saw Songbird in “flesh” I knew there and then she is not to be trusted. Not to mention she spilled the beans on herself by admitting to everything.

He basically threatens that her friends will be killed. She joins fia. That should have been the end . Instead she is forced by Myers to literally poke the blackwall and violate every international rule and doom humanity . Also she is forced to borg against her will and deteriorate mental health to poke the blackwall even more . Reed hid the very imp detail that she would be fucked real hard and do shit that will kill her slowly and painfully . V also fucks with arasaka in the heist. Difference is v isn’t forced to work for anyone for anything. They are a free bird with a dying brain who has so many options to cure themselves. So I don’t think so mi faced the consequences of her actions, she was rather forced or blackmailed into facing more than just the consequences of her action .

I didn’t know being forced to use the black wall (which gives you a death sentence) and betray your mentor were consequences from hacking for the average net runner. You must have learned about consequences from that key and peele skit

The SoMi apologists in here are hilarious. You guys act like she had no choice and was forced to breach the Blackwall from Day 1 with NUSA against her will. That she wouldn’t have agreed to have all these implants to augment her own considerable netrunning skills with tech and gear she could only dream of previously, not to mention probably uniquely made for her at her request. Let’s not forget she was a top netrunner and, under NUSA, became one of the best ever. She liked the challenge, but like a child, always hid behind NUSA to protect her when things blew up in her face from her own poor decisions.
Reed didn’t directly threaten her friends saying ‘if you don’t join us, we’ll kill them’. He simply said that things would spiral out of her control easily if she kept attacking corps and other big players and the consequences would eventually catch up to her, and very possibly her friends. If NUSA already caught her, then the others probably wouldn’t be far behind.
I don’t know, I just don’t get innocent, forced victim vibes about her at all. She consistently lies and withholds information from you during Phantom Liberty. NUSA/Myers isn’t a shining beacon, and Reed has a good heart but is literally a dog to his own warped values of loyalty to a fault, but SoMi works off animal instinct just as much as Reed does, but in contrast doesn’t accept responsibility for her actions.

Only if you apply pur laws, rules, morals into the Cyberpunk world, which doesn‘t work that well. Corps in Cyberpunk are the worst compared to our world. And it‘s understandable in a way that many people in Cyberpunk will also not play by the book.

I really felt that hacking an evil corporation as a young woman barely starting her life was warranted a life of servitude as a weapon set to destroy the enemies of the NUSA, with no friends, no home and no life anymore. Look at me, I did that voluntarily, and I’m doing great! Yeah sure, I had to disappear for 7 years and work as a bouncer to earn a living. But it was all worth it!
I can’t wait to bring So Mi back to this life! It will teach her an important lesson: always obey your master and never try to change anything.

I went to college with Aaron Swartz. I hadn’t thought about him much over the last few years until I played the expansion, but it hit very differently, especially the Brooklyn part to the point where I was wondering if they actually thought of him when writing her character.
What happened to So Mi wasn’t much different. A young ambitious hacker effectively destroyed by the government, but in So Mi’s case even gutted like a fish in addition. Reed is a blackmailing spook who doesn’t even believe in what he does himself, ordered dead by the person he still serves like a dog, Myers is a sociopath. Absolutely unhinged to think what happened to So Mi is anything but completely disgusting.
Hard to see how this is just the consequences of doing crime, when the sentence is to keep escalating those same crimes constantly and forever. Doesn’t really say “stop doing crimes” to me.
If you are better than the NUSA at their favorite crime, they will recruit you to join them, and they do NOT want anyone else to have you. That’s all it is. They do not give a single shit about blackwall hackers, but they’ll selectively pretend to care once or twice, if it lets them slap a permanent leash onto a really promising blackwall hacker.
