I have an old Tenda I bought from a friend for 10€. If it wasn’t 100Mbit/s it’d be perfect. No idea how old it is, but I assume 5 years at the very least. Never had a single problem with it.

Well of course the 15 years old wired-input router performs better than 4G mobile network modem/routers. 4G networks never were and never will be as stable or as reliable as any kind of wired/land-line ISP technology since ADSL, which is over 20 years old.

Went from an ISP issued, cheapo ZTE router, to a TP-link Archer c6. It ain’t an amazing router but god damn it’s a far more solid connection much further away

The Timing of this post is brilliant. right when I’m facing constant issues with my isp provided cheapo huawei router that can’t even provide 5ghz unless you stick the phone near its antenna. Even worse, stupid isp won’t let me use my own router

I don’t know how the other brands are doing these days, but Netgear has been going the anti-consumer route by removing previously included features and trying to sell them back to the user for $100+ USD a year. And they have done this during the service life of both my current and previous models. They suck.
Surprisingly ASUS actually makes okayish monitors. Regular firmware and security updates, lots of included features for free, intuitive UI design in their dedicated app, it’s actually been a pleasure using one of their routers. It’s also the insistent desire of modern software to “update” or “ask of status” every 5 seconds, that bloats the connection.
Add to that the fact, that modern household has many connected devices with this problem and youu can quickly see how cheap consumer electronics can get overwhelmed.
