Hi I wanted to ask if anybody can tell me what’s happening with this wraith prism. I bought it second hand so I don’t know how old it is, but does anyone know what these Black-ish spots could be ? And does it somehow affect it or the performance ?

Looks like oxidation. Try cleaning it up with alcohol. Doubt it affects performance.

The heatsinks are pure copper. Copper is awesome for heat transer. It is NOT awesome at resisting corrosion. Copper that is exposed for oxygen will quite quickly blacken and if exposed to salts and acids turn into verdigris
Edit: It is not bad, it will not hurt neither performance nor rigidity so any degree that you’ll notice it. It is not like rust which is a very bad iron corrosion
Looks like corrosion to me, copper gets that black, tarnished look when it corrodes. You can probably clean it up the same way you remove tarnish from a copper pot.

Sulfur or hydrogen sulfide can cause copper to turn black. Generally when it happens you see it on copper water pipes in your home. I have no clue how you managed to make that happen in your pc. Are you living in a high humidity environment?
It’s fine just some oxidation, you can go buy some copper polish or there’s some diy cleaning methods you can look up

It also oxidizes when you touch bare copper with your hands (the salts in your sweat can also cause oxidization).
Honestly not sure, never seen copper turn black like that in a PC.
Might wanna think about getting a new one at some point if it continues to get worse

Op came with a CPU cooler issue came out with big bill dealing with mold issue in his house, and possible intoxication due to mold. How you doing op?
Oxidization. Normal.
The cooler is still good but if it spreads further into the CPU contact area, you might have trouble.
Does you pc get very cold when not in use? You might have condensation forming on the cooler when the PC is off.
Just curious, but is ther an odd odor present where you live? Comparatively to other houses or apartments you come in contact with I mean.
My parents had an issue with Chinese Drywall from Knauf (manufacturer) that was emitting sulfur compounds into the air and causing corrosion like that. It also had a smell similar to rotten eggs, but not as potent. An easy self-test is the use of pennies (assuming you’re in the US). Get 2 glass jars, one with a lid and one without. Put one penny in the jar with a lid and seal it. Leave the other open and monitor them over a period of time. If one begins to turn black, theres your answer.
You may also be able to look around your living space for anything else that might be copper and compare. if everything else is fine, then maybe it’s an issue with humidity as others have said.
Just wanted to spread the word as someone that had to go through this that it may be the same issue.

I just recently cleaned an old amd cooler that was sitting ona shelf, i used car polish. Was in an ok enviroment but i think this was caused kust becuz it was sitting for long time. My guess is you can use any cleaning agent with little peeling affect, i wasnt aiming for a mirror finish anyways. Cooling impact ? Dont know it cools enough now.
