Its not wrong. Windows defender works perfectly fine so long as you don’t download stupid crap or go to shady sites.

My pc is so old it developed natural immunity to malware

  2. jikesar968

People do download stupid crap or go to shady sites though. :p

  3. HotMaleEmail

I always say, if you’re going to a website shady enough that defender doesn’t block it then any other antivirus won’t block it either.

  4. Fub4rtoo

Haven’t used antivirus software in years. Just a waste of money and system resources imo.

  5. NuclearShade

Bitdefender is one I use and recommend. It helps block a lot of things. Plus, I can install it on my PC, my wife’s laptop, and both of our androids. My wife isn’t very tech savvy. So…

Ask around and read forums before downloading free stuff. Remember, the mouse never stopped to ask why the cheese was free.

  7. AlexJonesInDisguise

But I like going to shady site, the risk makes it more fun

  8. Good_Nyborg

Pay attention and don’t be a dumbass will always be good advice.

  9. TheHappiestHam

I use Windows Defender but I also have MalwareBytes just for 2nd opinions and to scan every so often

I wouldn’t pay for Premium or have it running as my main AV, since as you say, Windows Defender is pretty good nowadays

    >Windows defender works perfectly fine so long as you don’t download stupid crap or go to shady sites.

Well to be fair if you are ever so careful, windows defender isn’t really doing anything for you.

It’s like wearing a rubber while not fucking. Kinda defeat it’s purpose.

  11. This is great advice for the average redditor but not so much the average grandpa that clicks every first link and ad they see

  12. Default_Defect

I pirated daily in my early teens with Limewire with no problems at all. My dumbass step dad got trojan horses from sketchy porn sites on a weekly basis and blamed it on me playing runescape.

Motherfucker, if I had any common sense I wouldn’t be asking.

  14. grubaskov

I bought mini pc for 25$ to use it as a network drive and downloading center and had to disable Windows update and defender completely to make IT works normally

  15. Those little virus is now my fren..i made him a little folder for him to live in

  16. JesusAycheChrist

Windows defender, ublock origin, common sense.

You don’t need anything else unless you’re pirating.

  17. JonseyMcFly

Defender is the only GOOD thing about windows anymore

A while ago an external drive took a shit while copying files and became unreadable. I was backing up pictures and important files to it.

Asked for any suggestions on bringing it back from the brink and the top responses were asking why I didn’t have a backup.

It WAS my backup. They wanted to know why I didn’t have two.

Win defender != Common sense. Check out for example the PC Security YT channel for good reviews and recommendations on different AV out there, and seeing how they react to common attacks.

“Its not wrong. Windows defender works perfectly fine so long as you don’t download stupid crap or go to shady sites.”

like you need visit sites to install an app

  21. AngryDragonoid1

The main reason here is no anti virus is 100% perfect. Something is going to slip through the cracks. If users are provided a “secure solution” the sense of concern and caution is lost immediately. Effectively, “Nothing can touch me,” and people will download anything trusting the paid system, in some cases with their lives – literally.

If users are cautious with Windows defender, the chances of catching an infection is incredibly low because they’re not downloading anything from shady sites.

If they do still get something, they can come whining “yOu TolD mE thIs waS sAfE.”

  22. Agreeable_Benefit_90

Yeah i stoped using antivirus, including Windows deffender, many many years ago, but i would not recomend disabling any windows countermesure to preventn any malicius software corrupt your files, nor avoiding using any antivirus just because, even counting on extensive knowledge, for obvius reasons

  23. lKrauzer

I prefer just using Linux and not needing an antivirus at all

  24. J-ordan69

I have windows defender disabled, and no other antivirus. Rawdog baby

  25. there is no good antivirus, especially free. keep the microsoft defender and install ublock origin on the browser.

  26. BeatnikConspiracy

Malwarebytes when you need to double check scan.

  27. SnooDoggos2360

I use Malwarebytes. I never had problems

  28. Hentai__Dude

Since i am using PCs, i never used an Antivirus and never had any Problems with it

Just have windows Defender do its usual Checks, and have ublock Origin on the Browser. Bam thats it, you do not need anything else as protection as Long as you dont do anything marvelously stupid

Common Sense is the best Antivirus, If you click on a link that Looks shady, and or sent by an Stranger, its your risk to click on it. No one is forcing you to click on this Link, Same with going on shady Sites or giving away phonenumber, Email adress etc. Etc.

And lets say you REALLY believe that a Virus is on your PC/device, then you can Still Download some free Antivirus Shit Software to do its checks, and uninstal it afterwards 🤙

  29. Michamus

It’s real simple. I don’t open files from anyone or any organization, without confirming they sent it, period. I don’t care if it’s from my grandma, mom, wife, daughter, son, brother, whatever. If they send me a file, I call, text, or talk to them to confirm they sent it. I have been using computers for 27 years and not once have I ever had a single virus. I’ve scanned using the top anti-virus software out there and they never find anything.

Oh, and I’ve run ad blockers since ads started popping up.
