And it is close to Cyberpunk because Cyberpunk is heavily inspired on GITS. There are tons of Easter egg in the game for it.

I would also suggest watching Akira, it’s the closest you’ll get to cyberpunk (besides edgerunners) also obviously blade runner+blade runner 2042, I wouldn’t watch ghost in a shell but dredd is pretty underrated imo
Also a little fact about Akira, the bike that the main character rides is in cyberpunk 2077 and the world of cp2077 was greatly inspired by the world of Akira

Do yourself a favor and watch the anime instead. The movie and Stand Alone Complex (both parts) are infinitely better and more cyberpunk than the live action movie.

I would say the most CP2077 movie out there is Dredd with Karl Urban. The setting is spot on. Great soundtrack as well

Hard no on GITS Live Action. Watch the original anime version.
Not because “iT’s OrIgInAl”, but because the live action grabbed everything what the movie was about, put it in the trash, hollywooded it and made an average action film. And recreated some iconic scenes for that nostalgia factor (ok, to be fair, they’re well done, but that’s about the only nice thing I can say about it)
The original movie makes some deep contemplations about what is life, if a soul (ghost) is alive regardless of the body is running on (shell). The protagonist suffers from this existencial question, she’s fully a machine, only her mind is organic. She seeks to understand what makes her truly human, if at all, and what differentiates her from machines.
This movie is the reason why I think artificial life, in theory, is possible. But it doesn’t tell you if it is or isn’t, it’s up to the viewer to contemplate.
The live action didn’t forget about these themes, but it created a far simpler story that you’ve seen in any other action movie. It offers nothing new that could change your perception or challenge your understanding of what it means to be human in an age of advanced technology. The live-action adaptation tends to oversimplify these complex themes, focusing more on visual spectacle and action rather than the philosophical depth and existential queries that made the original so compelling

Upgrade has a very similar story to Cyberpunk 2077. I just finished rewatching it the other day. Still such a great movie.
The premise, a brutal mugging leaves Grey Trace paralyzed in the hospital and his beloved wife dead. A billionaire inventor soon offers Trace a cure — an artificial intelligence implant called STEM that will enhance his body. Now able to walk, Grey finds that he also has superhuman strength and agility — skills he uses to seek revenge against the thugs who destroyed his life.
