I’ve never tried. Makes me wonder if it’s intentional or a physics bug.
I noticed that they break when you jump on them, which I thought was neat, but it never occurred to me that they can cushion your landing. Yet another little bit of detail in this awesome game. 🙂
Always, since my first playthrough. The only time you actually utilise this is when rescuing bugbear. Jump straight down to the vehicle

Always remember jumping in to it when it was first released, came from Dying light to Cyperpunk, so was used to jumping in to trash to break my fall

I was wondering that after surviving a ~4 story fall, landing on a mattress
100 hours in i suspected they did that. But i also wondered if the game was having issues.

Having played Dying Light 1&2 I figured that was probably their purpose.
As an AC and DL fan, jumping on trash or any cushion like stuff is always a must try.
This makes what adam smasher did in the anime even worse, he called rebecca trash.
But then my shoes will be smelly, I’d rather just take the damage and grab some takeout.
Kinda related in a ‘huh i didn’t know that’ way: Did you know the cops tape off areas you raid? I did an organized crime area, realized I needed to chrome my legs to get to a data port, when I came back from the ripper the place was full of em.
I tried jumping off a highway into the back of a garbage truck full of garbage with this same idea… Truck exploded but I still survived. Lol
Anyone here play it at launch like me and remember the joy of learning you could slide yeet V off a building and stick the landing and survive and then being shattered when they patched it
