I mean, there is truth to this. That’s why they ended up releasing a 12gb version of the card in the first place, though there’s an argument that’s also too little.
The 3080 was and is a very powerful gpu that deserved more vram to give it more longevity. Frankly, the 3080 probably should have had 16gb from the jump, and the 3070 absolutely should have had more than 8. 12gb would have been fine on the 3070, or even 10. But sure as fuck, it should have had more than 8.
Nvidia were stingy with vram on ampere and now again on Lovelace. The upcoming super cards have a bit more, so hopefully they’ve finally learned their fucking lesson on that one.

I have a 5800X3D and 32gb of DDR4 and really haven’t run into anything I can’t run cranked up

Question though. Are there extra vram pcle cards so that I I always have say 8gb more no matter what card I have? If so what would be a good way to go about that to keep up speed wise if that’s a factor.

Able to play most games with my 3080 10gb at 4k without much issue. Not necessarily the new 2023 stuff as im a patient gamer, but mid tier and games like RDR2 just fine maxed out. Just in time for the 5000 series where I’ll upgrade.
